............................................................................................................................ 65-66 3 SCHEDULING GUIDELINES The graduation requirements for Reading High School are in compliance with the Pennsylvania State Board of Education regulations and include credits earned in grades 9 through 12. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR GRADUATION: CURRENT JUNIORS AND SENIORS In addition to meeting credit requirements, current juniors and seniors must score advanced or proficient on PSSA Math and Reading or score advanced or proficient on 4Sight Math and/or Reading assessment during the senior year or score 10 percentage points higher than PSSA Math and/or Reading on the 4Sight Math and/or Reading assessment during the senior year or complete Plato/NovaNet courses in Math and/or Reading or complete a prescribed plan included in IEP or ELA plan or appeal to the principal in extenuating circumstances. INCOMING FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES As per changes in Chapter 4 legislation, beginning with the class of 2015, students must score at proficient levels on Keystone Exams in Algebra I, Biology, Composition, and Literature in order to graduate. Students will be given the opportunity to retake a Keystone Exam only once per course. Students who are unable to score at a proficient level after the allowable number of attempts will be permitted to complete a project- based alternative to demonstrate his/her knowledge in the subject matter. ALL STUDENTS All students must complete a senior project in order to graduate. This project can be completed at any time prior to graduation. Students must obtain a senior project information packet from their school counselors before beginning work on the project. I. Graduation Requirements include minimums in the following areas: Social Studies 3.00 credits English 4.00 credits Mathematics 4.00 credits Science 3.00 credits Physical Education 1.50 credits Wellness .50 credits Electives 6.50 credits Computer Elective .50 credits* TOTAL 23.00 credits * Computer Awareness or Keyboarding may be taken to satisfy the .5 Computer Elective credit requirement II. Promotion and Graduation Requirements To Grade 10 5.00 credits To Grade 11 11.00 credits To Grade 12 17.00 credits For Graduation 23.00 credits III. Schedule Changes Schedule changes will be permitted as follows: 1. With written parental/guardian permission until the end of April. 2. From May 1 to July 31 for Career Goal changes 3. After July 31 only the following changes will be given consideration: a. Request by student’s teacher for change in the level of difficulty of a course b. Scheduling
