Shape the future of the culture, events and festivals grants programmes Overview of Creative Southwark 2017 to 2022 Placed Southwark as Three themes: one of London’s most vibrant and innovative locations for cultural Creative Economy activity Creative Growth Creative People Creative Southwark • Southwark Council is a significant supporter of arts and culture, and creative industries • Provides direct funding and support for cultural activities, recognises the important role arts and culture play in our communities • The grants programme aims to further diversify the support provided to the sector ensuring its continued vibrancy, as well as playing a role in enabling organisations to leverage investment from other funders In order to continue to provide this support against a backdrop of challenging budget savings, the council has in recent years: • Reviewed its culture grants programme • Restructured the culture service • Introduced a small number of large commercial events to generate income What we currently fund Bermondsey Carnival Culture Grants £60,000 £152,000 Dulwich Events Estimated to leverage Commission in £3.25million £35,000 Southern Exposure Total: film programme £312,000 £5,000 £3.25 million Rotherhithe Festival £5,000 Fireworks £80,000 Central Southwark Festival Fund Creative Bursaries £55,000 pilot project £25,000 Blue Elephant Theatre Blue Elephant Theatre Southwark Park Galleries Boots on the Ground Spring Waking Camberwell Fair Rotherhithe Festival Where does the funding come from? £152,000 from the councils base budget £3.25 million £160,000 from income generated from commercial events and filming activity Blue Elephant Theatre How else is culture funded across the council? Developer funded Other council activity with Regeneration grants One-off One-off special commissions project funds New spaces Refurbishments Transforming Section 106 old spaces for funding for cultural use public art There are also several new funds from across the council now live or coming soon: • Positive Futures Fund (round 2 deadline 21 August) • Mayflower 400 (round 3 opening 1 July) • Pioneers Fund (coming soon) • Neighbourhoods Fund (opening Autumn) Why are we doing this?
