The Lord said to his disciples: "Now is the Son of man glorified, and in him God is glorified; if God is glorified in him, God will also glorify him in himself, and glorify him at once. Little children, yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me; and as I said to the Jews so now I say to you, 'Where I am going you cannot come.' A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another." Simon Peter said to him, "Lord, where are you go- ing?" Jesus answered, "Where I am going you can- not follow me now; but you shall follow afterward." Peter said to him, "Lord, why cannot I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you." Jesus answered, "Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly I say to you, the cock will not crow, till you have denied me three times." "Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.' "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me does not keep my words; and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me." "These things I have spoken to you, while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things, and bring to your remem- brance all that I have said to you." People Glory to your long-suffering, O Lord. Be Seated ANTIPHON (Tone 8) The rulers of the nation come together / against the Lord and his anointed. / Against me they hurl their vicious words! / O Lord, do not desert me! Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, / now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen. Your virginity remained intact, O Mother of God, / as you bore your Son, / just as before and after childbirth. / Beg Christ our God to save our souls. Rise Deacon That we may be worthy of hearing the holy gospel, let us pray to the Lord. People Lord, have mercy.(3) Priest Wisdom. Let us stand and listen to the holy gospel. Peace be with all of you. People And also with you. Priest A reading from the holy gospel according to John. People Glory to your passion, O Lord. SECOND GOSPEL (John 15:1-17) Let us be attentive. The Lord said to his disciples: I am the true vine, and my Father is the vinedresser. Every branch of mine that bears no fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already made clean by the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in me, and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. If a man does not abide in me, he is cast forth as a branch and withers; and the branches are gathered, thrown into the fire and burned. If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you. By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's command- ments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I com- mand you. No longer do I call you servants, for the servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all that I have heard from my Father I have made known to you.
