From June to September, the Essex County Free Summer Music Concert Series will enliven our parks with salsa, jazz, rock and roll, country, rhythm and blues, and more! There are 32 events planned, including three evenings with a concert and fireworks – June 29th in Weequahic Park, June 30th in Branch Brook Park and July 3rd in Brookdale Park. So grab a blanket or chair and enjoy the cool evening breeze and dance to sounds of summer. Other county venues also have special offerings. On Wednesdays and Thursdays during July and August, come to Turtle Back Zoo for extended evening hours and see our animals when the temperatures are cooler. And stay later on Wednesday nights to enjoy an animal-themed movie shown on the top floor of our parking deck. We also have free movies at Kip’s Castle Park, outdoor nature exploration activities at the Environmental Center and, if you want to escape the heat, ice skating at Codey Arena. Throughout the county, there are venues that offer a variety of opportunities to inspire your soul, challenge your mind and tickle your fancy. Essex is abundant with museums, galleries, classrooms and theaters where you can view the latest works of art, take classes, watch a play and more. The long list of events outlined in this newsletter will ensure you never have a boring summer day. Enjoy your summer and, remember, together we will continue Putting Essex County First. Joseph N.
