It’s been a tough year and there’s likely to be more difficult times ahead if our Conservative District & County Councils push on with growth and development around our communities. We’re still fighting the plans to build on our green belt but if some development goes ahead we’ll need strong campaigners in the district and county council chambers to fight our corner. It’s no longer going to be enough just to have a jolly local character as your councillor, we need seasoned campaigners and committed advocates. Your Green Councillors and Candidates Councillor Ian Middleton has shown that Greens can stand up for residents and hold the council leadership to strong account, but we need more councilors. As a proven parish councillor, Fiona Mawson is asking for your support to join Ian in the Kidlington East Ward as another strong voice on the District Council. Fiona has lived in the area for 28 years and has been a Parish Councillor since 2015. She’s passionate about environmental issues, community engagement and social justice. On the County Council we can remove overall control from the Conservatives to ensure balanced and positive policies for Green Councillors Fiona Mawson and everyone. Let’s send Ian Middleton to County Hall to do the same fantastic job he’s been doing at district level! Ian Middleton were both elected in 2019 We’ll need strong representation on the County Council to ensure we get our fair share of infrastructure and services funding, to make sure our roads and transport links are maintained, and to help ensure flood defences, schools, health services and social care provisions are up to the job. As we face greater challenges from climate change and other threats, now more than ever, we need effective and community focussed Green councillors like Fiona and Ian fighting our corner! This doesn’t only impact car drivers, but Climate change means flooding is becoming more common, but our response has users of mobility scooters, cyclists, and of course pedestrians. Yarnton Road has been in been patchy. A Green Party motion calling for a more joined-up approach was an abysmal state for years and it’s baffling that our current county councillors haven’t got it passed unanimously in February. It proposed support for local flood resilience groups fixed. Green District Councillor Ian Middleton has been pressing the county council on (using Yarnton’s pioneering group as an example) as well as regular monitoring and this, and as a county councillor he will have more authority to insist that it’s dealt with. maintenance of flood defences and a central point of contact for residents.
