A TWO DAY WORKSHOP BUCKRAM HatS P REFORME D A N D W E T - S H A PE D Friday and Saturday, July 26-27, 2013 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM with 1 hr lunch break with JAN WUTKOWSKI Class Fee: $200.00 Classes will be limited to a maximum of 15 students. If minimum registration is not met by July 1, class will be cancelled. Early sign up appreciated. sing techniques for working with a millinery foundation material--buckram, you will create two Ufabric covered hats. You will learn not only about the different types of buckram available, but about pre-formed shapes/frames as well. One hat will be created from a selection of commercially avail- able pre-formed shapes; the other will be your own design using the wet-shaping method. Learn to cut designs, wire the shapes, cover with domette, and ultimately several fabric manipulation techniques to beautifully and uniquely cover your hat frames. Linings will also be demonstrated. Both hats will be small cocktail or fascinator type hats, but bigger shapes (and the differences in covering with fabrics) will be discussed in class. BRING: • 1/4 to 1/2 yards of fabrics PER HAT; fabric suggestions--silks, thin cottons, velvets, stretch velours, patterns, florals, plaids, sheers are OK but MUST have a backing fabric to match or contrast • thin lining fabric per hat; matching threads; basic sewing basket of needles, sharp scissors, long bead-head pins, tape measure; • basic domed hat block or dolly head if possible (Some will be on hand for those that do not have access to one). • A pre-formed hat shape INSTRUCTOR: A milliner and owner of aMuse: artisanal finery, a wearable art shop in Wilming- ton, NC, she was trained in the millinery arts at the Melbourne (Australia) School of Millinery and creates one-of-a-kind hats and headpieces for an international clientele. Since 1998 she has been teaching hatmaking in art and craft schools throughout the US, Australia, England, and France.
