My apologies to the Puget Sound Antique Airplane Club, but there’s still time, so come out and see them! Lakeview, Ore. – Effective Thursday, July 11 at 12:01 a.m., Industrial Fire Precaution Level II (IFPL) will be implemented on lands administered by the Fremont-Winema National Forest, Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Lakeview District and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (USFWS) Sheldon-Hart Mountain National Wildlife Complex and Klamath Basin National Wildlife Refuge Complex. The only Lakeview District BLM-managed lands not included in this order are those within the Klamath Falls Resource Area that are west of the Langell Valley. This area is under the protection of the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF). Information regarding restrictions that apply to ODF-protected lands may be obtained by calling (541) 883-5681 or visiting the following Web site: http://egov.oregon.gov/ODF/FIRE/precautionlevel.shtml Under IFPL II, the following fire precautionary requirements are placed on power saw operations: Power saws and welding equipment may not be operated between the hours of 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. All power saw exhaust systems must be in good repair and include a screen-type spark arrester of 0.023 inches or less. All power saw operators must be in possession of the following equipment: o A long-handled, round point shovel with a blade not less than eight inches wide; and o A pressurized chemical fire extinguisher of not less than eight ounces capacity by weight. Before refueling a power saw, the refueling spot must be clear of all flammable material, including vegetation. The chainsaw must be restarted only after the operator has moved away from the refueling area. All power saw operators must stay in the cutting area for one hour after the chainsaw is shut off to watch for fire starts. Personal and commercial woodcutters are reminded of their responsibility to stay informed of current IFPLs and all restrictions that apply to activities conducted on public lands. Failure to comply with fire precautionary requirements may result in the issuance of a Violation Notice. Chiloquin, Ore. – Interagency fire crews have contained a fire burning in timber and brush northwest of Applegate Butte on the Fremont-Winema National Forest. The Slabhouse Fire was reported today at 3:45 p.m. just 10 miles northeast of Chiloquin, Ore. As of 9 p.m., firefighters were able to get a dozer line around the 34-acre fire and plan to begin mop up efforts tonight. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Forest officials want to remind the public that the fire danger level has increased in south central Oregon due to the hot, dry weather. “Dry grass, trees and shrubs can be ignited easily. With little moisture in the atmosphere and on the ground, a simple campfire or a discarded cigarette can cause a fire that can quickly spread,” said Kelly Lawrence, Acting District Ranger for the Chiloquin Ranger District. Enjoying working with fabric and teaching have been my abiding interests focus since my early 20’s. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education with a major in textiles and clothing from Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Then I taught tailoring in high school Home Ec classes for two years. Way back then “Home Economics” was a subject taught in high schools. Now it is a phrase that is so old that not many people even know what it is! Quilting has been my mail creative focus since 2001. Making custom designed quilts continues to be of great interest to me. I have taught quilting classes from North Carolina to Oregon. My website, www.sandiquits.com has photos of many of my more than 168 quilts as well as patterns I designed.
