Vedanta Limited Vimta Labs Ltd., Hyderabad Goa (QCI/NABET Accredited EIA Consultancy Organization, QCI Sr. No. 163, NABL Accredited & ISO 17025 Certified and MoEF&CC Recognized Laboratory) 1 PROJECT PROPONENT • Vedanta Limited, formerly Sesa Goa Limited, is the subsidiary of Vedanta Ltd. • The company’s main business focus on zinc, lead, silver, aluminum, copper, iron ore, oil & gas and commercial power, while its operations span across India, South Africa, Namibia, the Republic of Ireland, Australia and Liberia. • Sesa Goa has been engaged in exploration, mining and processing of iron ore. • The group has been involved in iron ore mining, beneficiation and exports. • During 1991-1995, it diversified into the manufacture of pig iron and metallurgical coke. • Vedanta operates value addition business in Goa with 832 KTPA hot metal, 1 MTPA sinter, 622 KTPA coke plant and 65 MW waste heat recovery power plant. 2 PROJECT PROPOSAL • TOR application for integrated proposal was filed vide proposal no. IA/GA/IND/89225/2018 dated 20th December, 2018. Based on the TOR conditions stipulated by MoEF&CC vide letter No. F.No.IA-J-11011/946/2007-IA.II (I) dated 6th March 2019. Draft EIA has been prepared • Vedanta Limited division operates two mini blast furnaces (MBF’s), BF#1, BF#2 having Consent to Operate (CTO) capacity of 2,92,000 TPA which are under operation at Amona village, Bicholim taluka, North Goa district, Goa. • The production capacity enhancement to 3,50,000 TPA will be done through process optimization and efficiency improvement as below: Sr. No B.F 1 & 2 Production Increase in Production (MT) 1 Increasing wind volume from current level of 30,000 21,677 Nm3/h to 32,000 Nm3/h 2 Increasing Fe percentage in burden (iron 6,953 ore/pellets/sinter) from 56.89 % to 58.48 % 3 Improving plant OEE from current 90.97 % to 91.97 % 3,210 through uniformity of hot metal bay handling facility 4 Increasing basic grade production 10,965 5 Increased by oxygen enrichment from current level of 0 % 11,017 to 2 %. 6 Increased by increase in sinter from 35 % to 50 %. 4,178 7 Total increase in production 58,000 3 PROJECT PROPOSAL • BF-3 of capacity 5,40,000 TPA operates at Navelim village, Bicholim taluka, North Goa district, Goa. • The production capacity enhancement to 6,50,000 TPA will be done through process optimization, technology upgradation and installation of oxygen plant. Power Requirement • The total power requirement after proposed expansion is 55.5 MW. • Existing power requirement is 27 MW. This requirement will be sourced from 65 MW captive power plant and external grid. Manpower Requirement • The proposed expansion project will generate opportunities for employment of around 450-500 people. • This project will also generate additional livelihood opportunities for stakeholders 12 RESOURCE REQUIREMENT Water Requirement • Total additional water requirement for the proposed expansion project will be 2,400 KLD with total requirement of 12,744 KLD. • Out of this 4,320 KLD is from Mandavi river with a blanket permission and rest is from Bandhara on Valvonti river with permission for 6000 KLD of water obtained from the GWRD vide letter no: 7-5(REV) /AGR /WDI /ACCTS /01/2012-13, dated 19th April, 2012. • Additional 4000 KLD approval has been received vide Letter No: WRD/WDI/ASW/F.15/2019-20/38 dated 03.06.2019.
