May the relationships that have been formed, the wisdom you have gained and the knowledge that has been imparted stand you in good stead in the years ahead. It is a great joy to recognize your significant achievement in completing the many requirements and demonstrating your in- tellectual, spiritual and personal development marked by the degree you are receiving. You have worked hard. You have studied long. You have read many pages and written many lines. I am sure that there were times when God seemed to ask more of you than you could manage. And yet, here you are. He has brought you to this day. Pike Interim Provost 4 | BIOLA UNIVERSITY C OMMENCEMENT SAPE KERS BILLY KIM | Graduate & BOLD Commencement Speaker Recognized as a senior Christian statesman and international leader, Dr. Billy Kim’s remarkable career of min- istry includes pastoral and church leadership, evangelism, and influence within business and political circles that have made a significant impact for God’s kingdom. After coming to the United States with the help of an American serviceman in 1951, Billy received his B.A. and M.A. from Bob Jones University. In 1973, Billy joined Far East Broadcasting Company (FEBC), heading up their Korea division. In his 35-year tenure as president he started with a single station and ex- panded to a network of ten stations that boldly proclaims Christ each day for a total of 242 hours in Korean, Chinese, English, Japanese and Russian. Currently, he serves as chairman of the FEBC-Korea board. Billy’s influence also extends into the social-political sphere on an international level, having ministered to presidents in the American White House and the Korean Blue House. He has been decorated twice by Korean presidents for Mass Media Achievements and for improving international diplomacy between Korea, China and Russia. During Friday’s commencement ceremony, Dr. Kim will receive an Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree for distinction in pastoral service. JONI EARECKSON TADA | Undergraduate Commencement Speaker After a diving accident in 1967 left her paralyzed from the neck down, Joni understood the needs of the dis- abled and emerged from rehabilitation determined to help those with disabilities. In 1979, Joni founded Joni and Friends (JAF), which she now leads as Chief Executive Officer. After almost two decades of growth, JAF is now the Joni and Friends International Disability Center whose vision is to ac- celerate Christian ministry in the disability community. Her work as an international advocate for people with disabilities has led her to roles on the National Council on Disability and the Disability Advisory Committee to the U.S. State Department. She is also Senior Associ- ate for Disability Concerns for the Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization and serves in an advisory capacity to many other organizations for the disabled. During Saturday’s commencement ceremony, Joni will receive an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree for distinction in public service.
