Hamon to Curl with Team Saskatchewan at Scotties REGINA

Hamon to curl with Team Saskatchewan at Scotties REGINA, Sask. - Former University of Regina curler Callan Hamon will be representing Team Saskatchewan at the upcoming Scotties Tournament of Hearts, from Feb. 20 to 28 in Grand Prairie, Alta. Hamon will be the second on Jolene Campbell’s team, which also includes Ashley Williamson (lead) and Ashley Howard (third). The team was coached to the provincial title by Russ Howard, former men’s world champion and Olympic gold medalist. Russ, Ashley’s father, will be unavailable to coach at the Scotties due to his responsibilities as a curling analyst on TSN. “It’s awesome playing with Jolene’s team, I learn so much from them when I play,” Hamon said of the rink she’ll be competing at the Scotties with. “They all bring different experiences and are very generous with their knowledge. We like to have fun when we play and we help each other a lot.” The team punched its ticket to the Scotties on Jan. 30 with a 7-4 win over Stefanie Lawton’s rink in the final of the 2016 Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Prince Albert. Hamon curled for the University of Regina for four years, serving as a third for her first three years before skipping the team in 2015. Hamon helped the team to a 2-5 record at the 2014 Canadian University Curling Championships before graduating with a Bachelor of Education from the U of R. “Curling at the University of Regina was such a great experience, I got to curl with girls I had grown up competing with and against,” Hamon added. “Getting to play in such a competitive atmosphere helped me grow as an athlete and was a great learning experience.” The Scotties Tournament of Hearts kicks off on Saturday, Feb. 20 when Team Sask will face Nova Scotia at 1:30 p.m. local time. .
