Doors open at 2.00pm for a 2.30pm start unless otherwise stated The group has been very busy since the last report. The visit from the Cober Valley Accordion Band sadly was slightly down on attendance as we had a number of members out of action. Jo, our leader, was finally admitted to hospital for her surgery (and I am pleased to report is improving slowly) . We are anxious to see her back in charge. Other members had holiday commitments or visitors but we enjoyed a really super afternoon with a good sing-a -long. The proceeds of the Raffle and Bring and Buy were donated to Lindseys sponsored swim. Our official August meeting was a mini bus trip professionally organised by Geoff - a return visit to Fistral Bay Hotel, Newquay for a delicious cream tea. We were treated like landed gentry and enjoyed a taste of gracious living. The September meeting will be our Harvest Auction with Ernie as Auctioneer. We are breaking with tradition slightly as we intend to start with a Harvest Lunch instead of afternoon tea. That meeting will start earlier at 12 Noon for 12.30pm. The Mini Bus has been busy if not always completely filled. The Afternoon Tea at the Old Rectory, St Clements, was delightful. We all took our sun hats and some sat outside while others took to the shade inside. We then strolled round the lovely garden - absolutely idyllic. Our next trip was to Griggs Farm Shop which we all enjoyed and we have more outings in the pipe line - watch this space! We are planning a sale of good Bric-a-Brac at the Community Center on September 14th - donations welcome to support our outings. The Silver Circle stall at the Fun Day was successful and we thank Carol an Geoff for their efforts in raising over £60. As mentioned, the next meeting is Harvest Lunch & Auction followed in October by a Fish & Chip Lunch. Again NOTE THE TIME CHANGES to 12 Noon for 12.30pm start. Our love of good food is once again apparent in this report and looks to be continuing in the future. Do come and join us as you will have a great time. All residents (aged 55 or over) are welcome to join the Silver Circle For more information ring Jo Collins - 01872 321599 or Margaret Simmonds - 01872 241671 Lindsey's Sponsored 2.25 mile Thames Swim We are delighted to report that the swim was completed on 20th July in 2hr 33mins 54secs. The sum raised in Tony Simmons' memory has reached £1,000 (and still rising) for Cancer Research. Sincere and grateful thanks to all who donated, the members of the Silver Circle, the patrons of the Clock and Key and the generous residents of the village. Thank you all. The booKings during June were our regulars WI, Silver Circle and Short Mat Bowling, as well as Parish Council meetings and a Wind Turbine consultation. July we had a booKing for a four day training course for a local organisation, who will be coming bacK to us next month. August is usually a slow month and we can then have maintaince jobs done, so we have had the hall redecorated, by a volunteer from the committee during this time; so all nice and smart for the new season. But also we have had booKings for various functions and children's parties duing the month so not so quiet after all! LooKing forward to the end of the month we have another Craft Fair to be held on August 30 so looK forward to seeing everyone. On September 26 we are having a FolK Night with the West Looe Jolly Sailors Group for your entertainment and there will be pasties for sale at £2.50. TicKets can be pre-booKed at a cost of £5.00 which will help us Know the number of pasties we need to order. October is beginning to looK busy and on November 9 we are having in conjunction with the Church and the chapel, a dedication for WW1 Veterans, if anyone has any information of those from the village who served please contact us so we can include their names in our Roll of Honour we are having a slate plaque engraved to place on the Hall, to commemarate its WWI origins.
