The Hawks’ running game has struggled on the road with 25.5 rushing yards per contest. The punt is tied for the second longest punt in program history. 2 GoCuhawks.com | Twitter: @CUHAWKS | Instagram: @CUHAWKS 2017 Chowan University Hawks TIM PLACE HEAD COACH | 10TH SEASON TIM PLACE enters his 10th season at the helm of the Hawks football program after producing back-to-back winning seasons for the first time in the Division II era and has produced winning seasons three of the last five seasons. Place guided the Hawks to a 6-4 overall record and a 4-3 CIAA record during the 2016 campaign. Under Place’s direction, the Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 record to start the season with their lone loss to Division I Campbell. After the loss, the Hawks bounced back to win three straight contests to tie the program mark for consecutive wins. Chowan garnered a program best 10 All-CIAA selections (seven Second Team selections) and 18 CIAA Player of the Week honors. Randall Dixon broke the single game mark for passing yards with 404 yards in a 47-14 win over Johnson C. Smith. Dixon also tied the single game mark with five touchdown passes in the victory against Livingstone and Johnson C. Smith. Dixon was one of seven to be named to the All-CIAA Second Team. Under Place, Tyree Lee finished his career with a DII program record 2,114 yards and 24 touchdowns. Lee is the only Hawk to produce back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons. Lee broke his own school record with a 243 yard rushing performance against Lincoln (Pa.) and rushed for a school record four touchdowns against Virginia Union. Lee picked up All-CIAA Second Team honors, as well as, two CIAA Player of the Week honors. In 2015, Place led the Hawks to a program best record of 6-4 for the second winning season in program history with the first coming during the 2012 season under Place. The season was highlighted with the program’s first ever win over a Division I Delaware State, 31-30, on the road and defeating CIAA perennial powerhouse Winston-Salem State for the first time. Nick Hahula became the program’s first CIAA Special Teams Player of the Year and earned First Team All-CIAA honors along with OL Michael Lugo being named to the First Team as well. During the 2014 season, the Hawks finished with a 2-8 overall record and 1-6 in league play. Despite the record, the Hawks were in every game. Kemaree Alcorn anchored the defense while earning a CIAA All-Rookie Team selection and was named NCCAA All-American Second Team. Defensive back, Marcel Burns Jr. was also named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team. Roderick Lindsey added an All-Super Region I Third Team accolade. The 2013 season was fruitful despite the 4-6 overall record and 3-4 record in CIAA play. Defensive stand-out TJ Batchelor earned Preseason BSN All-American and USA College Football All-American honors. Chowan started off the season against two DI programs: Charlotte and Sacred Heart. The Hawks would finish the season 4-4 with three of those losses within 10 points. Robert Holland finished his career holding nine Chowan receiving records including: career yards (4,351), receiving touchdowns (43), and career receptions (43). Holland ranks second in NCAA history in career receptions and 10th in career yards. Holland became the second Hawk to be named CIAA Offensive Player of the Year. Holland earned CIAA First Team honors and was named USA College Football All-American and BOXTOROW All-American. Holland was also named All-Super Region I Third Team. The Hawks garnered three All-CIAA Second Team honors in Aeon Blake, Jason Ampy, and Dakorian Desamme. Coach Place was awarded the prestigious Roanoke-Chowan News Herald Front Page Award after the 2012 season for his efforts and leadership in the campus and his impact on the local community. Place guided the 2012 team to the first winning season in DII history and only second ever winning season since Chowan became a four-year school in 1993. The Hawks went 6-4 overall and a program best 5-2 in CIAA play finishing second in the CIAA Northern Division behind Elizabeth City State. TJ Batchelor was named Don Hansen and BSN All-American status and became the first Hawk to be named All-Super Region I Second Team. Batchelor and offensive lineman Jobari Coleman-Wilson were named All-CIAA First Team. In addition to their success on the field, the Hawks had their second-ever representative on the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team with Austin Tallant earning the honor in 2012.
