From: Joe Lombardi <[email protected]> Date: May 24, 2016 at 9:59:59 PM EDT To: Joe Lombardi <[email protected]> Subject: Banana Wind 5/24/16 - Summer Fun Edition Good evening METROs! This weekend marks the unofficial start of the Summer of 2016. Here are some of the METRO events planned over the next few months. Make sure to check the club website www.metrophc.net for information on these and other events. In just three months Jimmy Buffett will take the stage at Jones Beach. It's been three weeks since the request for ticket payment went out and fewer than half of the tickets that were requested have been paid for. That's not a good thing. For those of you who have requested tickets for the August 25, it's time to send in your checks and Self-Addessed, Stamped- Envelopes. Tickets cost $100 each. Checks should be made payable to the METRO Parrot Head Club, the Self-Addessed, Stamped- Envelopes should be made out to, well... yourself. Both your check and your Self-Addessed, Stamped- Envelope should be mailed to the METRO PHC Ticket Coordinator (that would be me): Joe Lombardi P.O. Box 8 Wainscott, NY 11975 Payment (and Self-Addessed, Stamped- Envelopes) are due by May 26th. A word to the wise, there are ten people on the "Wait List" for concert tickets. If your check is not received by May 26, and I have not heard from you, your tickets will be made available to the club members on the list. Don't let those fun tickets slip away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Road Clean-up Recap Fifteen METRO gave up some sleep on a Saturday morning to clean litter along the shoulders of our adopted road, Route 114 in East Hampton. While the turn-out may have been a little light, spirits were high, mostly because we knew that cold adult beverages awaited us at the Corner Bar. A number of us lingered there until it was time for the Kentucky Derby Party at Baron's Cove, where a bluegrass (Kentucky Bluegrass?) band was playing and the mint juleps were flowing right up to race- time, when they passed out cards with the lyrics to "My Old Kentucky Home". METROs, who are no strangers to decorating hats, help set the tone at the party. The julep-fueled crowd would have fit in well at Churchill Downs. Thanks to all who gave up a party of their Saturday to help kick off our 24th year of roadside clean-ups. We couldn't do it without you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Happy Hour Saturday, June 18th from 7pm -11:30pm at Giacomo Jacks - 248 S Ketcham Ave - Amityville ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Parrotpalooza at Flynn's Ocean Beach, Fire Island 06/25/2016 - 12:00 pm - 6:00 pm Two top bands (right now, Ed Travers Band, and Jimmy Kenny and the Pirate Beach Band). There will be LandShark promotional giveaways (we hope) Ferry Schedule: http://www.fireislandferries.com/sched ules/ocean-bay-park/ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Save the Date! Saturday, July 16th Soldier Ride - The Hamptons Rolls Through Amagansett, Sag Harbor and Montauk METROs have had a growing presence at this event for the past few years. This year we'll need your help more than ever. Make plans to attend and get ready to be humbled by the service men and women who have given so much. Once again we expect 50+ U.S. vets and vets from both the UK and Israel. Contact Joe Lombardi at [email protected] if you can make this event. We'll need help with things like registering riders, organizing the parking area (which should be a breeze compared to Lot 5 at Jones Beach), setting up and serving breakfast, cleaning up from breakfast and preparing for lunch, serving lunch and cleaning up. We'll need help from about 6AM to 4 PM (consider it a trail run for the pre-concert tailgate). This year G.E. Smith, one of the Masters of the Stratocaster, and his band will be headlining the concert at Amagansett Square at 6pm. All volunteers are welcome to attend the concert. Perhaps you know G.E. Smith from his tenure as the led guitarist for Hall & Oates. Or maybe from the time he spent as the musical director for the Saturday Night Live Band, But did you know that G.E. and Jimmy Buffett wrote a song together? Can you name it? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Put your makeup on, fix your hair up pretty And meet me tonight in Atlantic City. Or maybe we'll meet on the afternoon of August 13, when Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band will be performing on the Atlantic City Beach. G. Love and Special Sauce will be opening. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10AM. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sunset cruise on the Moonchaser with Barometer Soup! Join us at Race For a Reason Sunday, September 18th at 7AM Westhampton Beach Village Green Margaritaville will again be the Title Sponsor of the 3rd Annual 5K Race For a Reason. Which takes place on Sunday, September 18th. The race starts at the Westhampton Beach Village Green. Last year the Race For A Reason was forced to Reason With Hurricane Season as Hurricane Joaquin made it's way up the coast forcing the postponement of the race until November. Race organizers have moved the date up to September 18th, they think the warmer weather, the new location will help them build momentum for the future runs. Last year Margaritaville TV was on hand to videotape the race. They're expected back and we're hoping that the METROs can make their presence felt, so wear your tropical finest. In that METROs have never been know to be camera shy, there's a good chance we won't wind up on the cutting room floor. Mark those calendars and make plans to attend. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ***Cycle for Life - Cystic Fibrosis Foundation*** SATURDAY September 24, 8pm Splish Splash in Calverton This is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation's 4th annual bicycle ride and METROs have been there supporting this event from the beginning. Big John spearheads our efforts and he needs some volunteers to help with the cycle ride that is CF Foundation’s premier cycling event. Cycle for Life is still in the planning stages but this we know, they will need METROs to staff a water stop As soon as we have the location, we'll pass it along. For now, mark those calendars. Boy, those calendars are getting full ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As long as you have those calendars out... Mark down the Fall Road Clean-up on SATURDAY October 15th As usual, we'll meet at 10AM in the parking lot near the King Kullen (or possibly near the Dunkin' Donuts) at the Bridgehampton Commons Shopping Center. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ As always, remember to check the club website, www.metrophc.net for info on these and other fun events. .
