In 1928, Hodgson became the University’s first music professor and first chairman of the Department of Music. He retired from the University in 1960. The Thursday Scholarship Series began in 1980 and continues the tradition of “Music Appreciation Programs” started by Hugh Hodgson in the 1930s. Proceeds from these concerts are the primary source of funds for School of Music scholarships.
