Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed felicitates public and private healthcare entities that have achieved international accreditations Source: www.ameinfo.com » Company News/G/Government of Dubai/Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed felicitates public and private healthcare entities that have achieved international accreditations His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive council, felicitated today private and public healthcare facilities who have achieved international accreditations. United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, May 16 - 2012 The international accreditations included Joint Commission International ( JCI), Canada accreditation and The Australian Council on Healthcare Standards( ACHS) and a total of 27 hospitals, health centres and laboratories were appreciated at today's event. The move is in line with the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015 and the Dubai Health Strategy 2011-2013 to encourage the health sector in the Emirate to seek international accreditations so as to ensure that they go beyond the basic levels necessary for safe and effective care. His Excellency Qadhi Saeed Al Murooshid, Director-General of the DHA said: "Seeking international accreditations for the health sector of Dubai is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai as envisaged in the Dubai Strategic Plan 2015. International accreditations are important to benchmark ourselves at an international level and adhering to physical and operational standards play an important role in the delivery of safe and high-quality services for our population and visitors. Today 71% of our hospitals are internationally accredited and by the end of 2012, all remaining hospitals should be in the process of international accreditations. In terms of laboratories, 635 have international accreditations and the remaining are in the process of achieving it." In terms of accreditations for DHA Hospitals and speciality centres, Al Murooshid said: "The accreditation journey for the DHA began in 2006 and in 2007 Dubai, Latifa (previously known as Al Wasl) and Rashid were accredited by JCI in 2007 and were reaccredited in 2010. Thalassemia Center achieved accreditation in 2007 and became one of the first few specialized centres in the world to have a JCI accreditation. The centre was reaccredited in 2010. Similarly, the Airport Medical Center achieved its accreditation for ambulatory care standards in 2010 and is one of the few centres in the world to have JCI accreditation." He added that Rashid Hospital is the only hospital in the Middle-East to get a disease specific certification in cardiology from the Joint Commission International (JCI). The disease specific certification in Acute Coronary Syndrome was granted to the Cardiology Department in 2010 for the best practises they follow to deal with cardiac patients who suffer from heart attacks and other cardiac disorders. The JCI not only granted the cardiology section of the hospital this accreditation but also put up some practises followed by the cardiology section at the Rashid Hospital on their best practises website to encourage other hospitals around the world to follow the same standard. Al Murooshid added that seeking international accreditations is an ongoing process, "It is the cornerstone to ensure quality in the healthcare and we congratulate all healthcare organizations that have achieved this status."
