Senior Research Analyst Earth Economics is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization located in Tacoma, Washington with over 20 years’ of innovation and success in applied ecological economics. This position may work remotely anywhere within the United States. The Senior Research Analyst will conduct applied ecological economics research and analysis, developing and applying tools and models towards this end, and producing written material to support both project deliverables and business development opportunities. The goal is to estimate the economic value of ecosystem services—goods and services rarely traded in markets—to more fully reflect the contribution of nature. In this role, you will support Earth Economics’ Program and Project Leads to deliver innovative, high-quality analyses to help policymakers and communities better understand, protect, and expand investment in natural capital. The Senior Research Analyst will report to the Research Principal. Qualifications • Masters’ degree or PhD in an economics discipline required. • Curious, flexible, and pragmatic—with excellent attention to detail. • Creative problem solving skills (e.g., working with limited or incomplete data). • Experience in ecological economics and/or benefit-cost analysis. • High-quality written communication abilities—both technical documentation and summaries for lay audiences. • Strong verbal communication, both one-on-one and within teams. • Strong aptitude for conducting rigorous online and scholarly research, ability to integrate and summarize information in a concise and timely manner. • Strong proficiency with MS Office Suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Advanced Excel skills preferred. • Proficiency with ArcGIS Pro, ArcPy, and/or R preferred. Earth Economics | Tacoma, WA 98403 |EarthEconomics.org Duties may include but are not limited to: • Developing and applying analytical tools and models, including Earth Economics' proprietary Ecosystem Valuation Toolkit (EVT), as well as the industry-standard input-output analysis platform, IMPLAN. • Reviewing valuation literature and transcribing key economic and sociodemographic data. • Conducting literature reviews on a broad range of subjects, including: nature-based solutions, green infrastructure, land management practices, environmental health, environmental justice, water management, and environmental science. • Communicating with Project/Program Leads and clients to identify and complete research tasks. • Managing tasks, priorities, and deliverables in a timely, self-directed manner; weekly check-ins with the Research Principal to review current and upcoming tasks and deliverables. • Developing (or applying) valuation methods to generate economic measures from environmental and sociodemographic data. • Applying (or developing) mathematical approaches (algebra, calculus, econometrics) to analyze financial, biophysical, social, and economic data. • Documentation of research findings and analysis results both for technical and lay audiences. • Preparing and presenting findings to project teams, staff, clients, and stakeholder audiences. • Contacting subject-matter experts to review research assumptions or gather data. • Facilitate conversations with client teams and subject matter experts. Other Details • Based in Tacoma, WA, but may work remotely anywhere within the United States. • May require up to 10-percent travel, depending on project needs.
