THE 2014 KANSAS CITY ROYALS POST-SEASON GUIDE IS AVAILABLE ON-LINE AT MLBPRESSBOX.COM BUM-RUSHED--The Royals look to square up this World Series and send it to a winner-take-all Game #7 tomorrow as these clubs return to Kauffman Stadium tonight...Kansas City fell to 2-3 in this year’s Fall Classic after another run-in with the postseason mastery of Giants’ starter Madison Bumgarner on Sunday evening in AT&T Park, as the southpaw recorded a 4-hit complete game 5-0 victory over the Royals...KC only once had a runner in scoring position, as Omar Infante doubled with one out in the fifth, but he was left stranded...James Shields fell to 0-2 in this year’s World Series, but allowed just two runs over a solid 6.0-inning stint...the Giants added three runs in the eighth off of the combination of Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis, the first tallies either had allowed since the Angels scored a run off of Davis in Game #3 of the ALDS. IT’S BEEN DONE BEFORE--Kansas City looks to replicate its comeback effort of 1985 as Game #6 commences tonight against the Giants...the lone World Series champion in franchise history returned home from St. Louis down 3-2 to the Redbirds, but won the final two games of that Fall Classic to send the city into a frenzy... since 1982, there have been 10 instances when a team has returned home trailing by a 3-2 margin and on eight occasions, the home club won the final two games to win the World Series...the most recent was in 2011, when the Cardinals were down 3-2 to the Rangers, but went back to Busch Stadium where they were within a strike of elimination twice, but wound up World Champs...others to rebound from 3-2 deficits at home starting in 1982 were: 1982 Cardinals over Milwaukee; ‘85 Royals over Cardinals; ‘86 Mets over Boston; ‘87 Twins over Cardinals; ‘91 Twins over Atlanta; ‘01 Diamondbacks over Yankees and ‘02 Angels over Giants... only the ‘92 Braves vs. Toronto and ‘03 Yankees vs. Marlins lost Game #6 at home when returning with a 3-2 deficit. CLIMBING KC POSTSEASON LIST--The Royals have a trio of players who have climbed into the franchise’s Top 10 in hits for a single postseason with Eric Hosmer leading the pact with 18 hits entering Game #6 of the World Series...Hosmer has tied George Brett’s total from 1985 for the second most hits in a postseason and enters tonight just two knocks behind Willie Wilson’s 20 in ‘85...Lorenzo Cain is currently fourth all-time with 17 hits to this point while Alcides Escobar has collected 16 hits to tie Lonnie Smith’s ‘85 performance for fifth most in a postseason...Cain’s 12 runs scored this year have established a team mark, one more than Brett scored in ‘85...Alex Gordon’s five doubles this fall have matched Smith’s ‘85 total for most in a postseason, while Cain and Escobar are lurking with four apiece...Mike Moustakas has already tied Willie Aikens’ 1980 club mark of four home runs in a postseason, while Hosmer and Gordon have matched Aikens’ RBI record of 10 set in 1980. KC NEEDS 2014 SENIOR CIRCUIT MAGIC--With two wins necessary to turn this World Series into Kansas City’s favor, the Royals need some of the good fortune they enjoyed during the 2014 regular season against the National League...the Royals posted a Major League best 15-5 mark against the Senior Circuit during interleague play, with all but four of those games occurring against the National League West...KC was 7-3 against the N.L. in Kauffman Stadium and went 8-2 on the road vs. the N.L., losing their first meeting in San Diego before winning eight in a row and then losing the N.L. road finale in Denver...the Royals also swept a 3-game series in August from these Giants. POSTSEASON RECAP--Kansas City enters tonight with a 10-3 mark this postseason with all three losses occurring in the World Series...KC was the first team in history to open a postseason 8-0, a streak that began with the Royals coming back from a 7-3 deficit in the eighth inning of the Wild Card Game against Oakland to eventually post a 9-8 victory over the A’s in 12 innings...from there, the Royals swept three from the Angels, highlighted by back-to-back 11-inning wins in Anaheim and then kept the dream alive with a 4-game sweeping of Baltimore, taking the first two in Camden Yards and then finishing things off at home with consecutive 2-1 wins. BATS NEED TO BREAK OUT--The Royals have hit just .221 as a unit during this 2014 World Series (36-for-163) while plating 15 runs (3.0 per game average)...while sweeping through the Wild Card, ALDS and ALCS, the KC offense hit at a combined .259 clip (73-for-282), though hit just .198 in the 3-game sweep of the Angels. PRE-WORLD SERIES WORK--Yordano has now made twice as many postseason starts (4) as the Royals had by all rookie hurlers combined prior to this year...he is the seventh Major League rookie to make 4 or more postseason starts and has taken a no decision in each outing...he worked 5.2 innings in the ALCS on October 11 at Baltimore, allowing 4 runs and 5 hits, with 3 walks before leaving a 4-4 game due to right shoulder tightness...KC broke the tie in the ninth, winning 6-4 to take a 2-0 series lead in an eventual 4-0 sweep...he went 7.0 frames in the division series at Anaheim, allowing a run with 5 hits, a walk and 5 K’s, with KC winning 4-1 in 11 innings...Ventura became the fourth pitcher in team history to go at least 7.0 innings in a postseason game with no more than 1 run allowed, joining Bret Saberhagen, Charlie Leibrandt and Danny Jackson, who all did it twice.
