G. Monks CHAIRMAN'S STATEMENT We can be proud of the Republican Party in Maine in 1978. A party is many things. IT IS: CANDIDATES We have probably the most attractive group of candidates for Federal office ever assembled by any State. Together with our three candidates for the Gubernatorial nomina tion, they represent the excellence, depth and variety of the modern Republican Party; IT IS: ORGANIZATION Our office in Augusta headed by Tony Payne, Cliff Hopkins, and Paul Boudreau, helped by Yvonne Trott and Mona Toothaker has set a new high standard of excellence for will ingness to help all Republican needs; IT IS: ISSUES Everyone has come to appreciate the essential Republican theme of providing services to all who need them within the limits of revenues raised through just taxes; IT IS: YOU It Is not said often enough that many fine people give generously of themselves and their resources to help the party. Without wishing to minimize my appreciation for all help, I would llke particularly to express my gratitude to Vice-Chairman Hattie Bickmore, Finance Chairman William Lackey, Executive Committee Chairman Howard Dana, State Commit· teeman Merton Henry, State Committeewoman Jane Cushing along with Advisor to the Chairman Biii Webster. Finally, remember that we will not achieve the success to which we are entitled If any per son reading this falls to remember the essential Republican principle - success depends on the commitment and effort of each individual. Please help. Thank you. Bob Monks 6 Augu1ta City Republican Committee Welcome to Au9u1ta ~ RE~IUllLllCIRln STATE ~ ~convEnT11on 11978 We take pride in dedicating the 1978 MAINE REPUBLICAN CONVENTION PROGRAM to those men and women who have served Maine so well as State Legislators. They are the people who really decide the future of Maine. The Republican State Committee and the staff at Republican Headquarters take special pleasure in thanking Yvonne Trott for her many years of devotion and dedication to Republicans in Maine. It 's thanks long overdue for a job well done-and done with caring concern for what makes this party great-you and me.
