29Th March 2019 Wittersham Church of England Primary School

Wittersham Church of England Primary School “On a voyage of discovery: together we learn, grow and achieve” 29th March 2019 Dear Parents and Carers, Thank you for the lovely comments about the Mother’s Day Lunch. Janet Pudan and the team do a wonderful job in making these events special for the children and our visitors and there is always such a happy atmosphere. We have received letters from the Parochial Church Council and the Wittersham Parish Council offering words of congratulations to the staff and the children for their achievements both academically and pastorally. The letters acknowledge that success is also due to the support the school receives from parents, governors and volunteers. As I have said many times before, a school cannot thrive in isolation but does so from being at the heart of its community and we are blessed to have such a warm and encouraging community around us. I look forward to seeing you at the parent consultations next week and at the Easter Service at 9.00am on Friday 5th April at St John’s Church. Have a fantastic weekend. Claire Frost Headteacher The results have come through for the Mathletics Challenge which we took part in during March. We came in at a fantastic 95th out of 458 schools, which considering we are a small school is very impressive. Parents and Carers This week we have had a lovely cake sale for Smugglers class and managed to raise a fabulous £197 for Smugglers to use for themselves. Thank you for all your support once again, we had some beautiful cakes for everyone to choose from. Starting Monday, we will be opening up our raffle for the chance to win a Giant Ostrich egg or one of two Lindt bunnies. A slight change from previous years, children can bring £1 in to have a chance at winning and the raffle will be open until Thursday. Good luck everyone! On Friday the WSA will be holding an Easter egg hunt for the children. There is no cost and every child will have an Easter treat. Have a great weekend everyone. On Monday the school football team played their first match in the Arctic League against Brabourne School. From the first whistle the whole team started to play some very impressive football, and continually pressing Brabourne back into their own half. It was inevitable that we would soon score, having created numerous chances, and by half time, we were 3 – 0 up. The team carried on in the same way in the second half, finally finishing the match with a 6 – 4 victory. On Tuesday the year 3 – 4 Hockey Team represented the school at the Kent School Games Hockey Tournament at Ashford Prep. They like the footballers started off like an express train, winning their first two matches 6 – 0 and 5 – 1 respectively. Their next match against John Wesley would decide who out these two schools would be playing for a medal in the afternoon. What a match this was, with John Wesley scoring the winning goal with 20 seconds remaining. The team started the afternoon session much as the first winning another two of their matches comfortably. This secured a sixth place finish for them out of nineteen teams, another brilliant performance from our small school! Thursday saw the last of the sporting action for the week, with Chilham school coming over for our second Arctic League match. The first two minutes of this match were completely different to the one against Brabourne, as it was us who were being pressed back into our own half. Fortunately for us we managed a breakaway goal after five minutes, and from that moment on, there was only going to be one winner. We finished the match with a 10 – 3 victory, and Sammy scored seven of those goals all by himself. What a week!!
