NORTH M.AT·VERN adjoins Great Malvern, but, for more easy reference, the Directory has been kept separate.- 'The church, dedicated to the Holy Trinity, is a handsome stone edifice, situate at Link top, and built at . a. cost of about £3,ooo, towards which Charles Morris, jun., Esq., of London, was a liberal contributor. It was enlarged and beautified in 1873 and 1877. A new organ of three manuals, by Nicholson of Wor­ cester, was added in January 1878. The living is a. vicarage, value £245, in the patronage of the Right Ho-n. Lady Emily Foley, .and held by the Rev. Francis Haden-Cope, M.A., St. John's College, Cambridge, who was instituted in I 8 7 S· A handsome ·vicarage house was erected in I 871-2. The Morris national school is a substantial stone building, erected in 1838, by the late Charles Morris, Esq., for the. accommodation of the children of North Malvern and the adjoining parishes. It was enlarged in r8so; the .average attendance of boys is·9o; girls, So; and infants, 70. The North Malvern Congregational chapel is now used for Sunday school and for night services on week-days. It is a. commodious building situate in Cowleigh road. 'fhere is a· reading-room, lending library, clothing club, coal club, &c., in connection with the district. On North Malvern road are the water tanks erected in 1835-6, at the sole expense of Charles Morris, jun., Esq., of Portman square, London, and· generously given by him for the use of the inhabitants. These tanks • were transferred to the Malvern Local Board, who have recently carried out improvements to increase the water supply, from plans prepared by T. Hawksley, Esq., the eminent engineer. An extensive reservoir has been erected in the valley above the Morris tank by Messrs. \Vood & Sons, of Worcester, at a cost of £4,97 S· The situation is one which has pre­ sented great difficulties, the rock upon which it is placed being more or less fissured, but the work altogether is a very fine piece of engineering, and will last for ages to come. It was completed in February 1877· The internal dimensions of the reservoir are 99 feet x 8 5 and I 9 feet to the top water line, and it will contain nearly one million gallons of water. Near the tanks are some extensive quarries. The North bill is more picturesque, though less frequented, than the Worcestershire Beacon. · The views from the top are lovely and extensive. The Sugar Loaf lies between the North hill and the Beacon. The population of the eccle­ siastical district of North Malvern in 1871 was about 2,ooo. CowLEIGH is a newly-formed parish beautifully situated near the North hill. It was formerly an ecclesiastical district under West Malvern, but • in March 1876 was constituted an independent parish, its area being extended by the transfer to it of a portion of West "lfalvern, Leigh, and Cradley (Herefordshire). The church is dedicated to St. Peter, and is a model of wh&t a rural church ought to be, as regards its - internal Ji,nd external arrangements. It was erected in 1866, by sub· .
