EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Introduction: M/s. CHITHARA CRUSHER METALS is a Partnership firm having its registered office at Mancode Village, Kottarakkara Taluk, Kollam District, Kerala State. This firm has been registered under Indian Partnership Act, 1932. This company is operating couple of granite quarries and crusher in the state of Kerala and having vast experience in this field over a period of 5 - 10 years. Now, Firm is intending to operate the quarry on bigger scale by increasing area, production and etc. More over now it is a mandate to obtain the Environment clearance. The total extent 10.3134 ha, in Mancode Village of Kottarakkara Taluk, Kollam District. Method of Quarrying: The quarrying will be done by open cast mechanized method of mining. The bench height will be 5 m and width will be 5 m. drilling and blasting will be adopted to loosen the hard strata. Shovel dumper combination is used for loading and hauling to the disposal points. The ultimate depth of the mine working is estimated to reach up to 40 MSL. Considering total reserves and the rate of production, the life of the quarry would be about 9 years proposed rate of production will be 2,39,000 tones/annum. Employment: The existing quarry has already generated about 20 members and preference has been given to the local community. Environmental Management Measures: The entire quarry area is planned systematically and scientific method of mining with 5 m bench height and 5 m bench width. The entire quarry operations will be supervised by the qualified Mines Manager and he shall identify the suitable personnel for implementation of Environmental Management Plan (EMP). Periodic monitoring of Environmental Parameters has been outsourced to an approved laboratory and also proponent will be adopting occupational health and safety measures.
