MONDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2009 ►Enchanted Santa Barbara 1:30pm-5:00pm $81 per adult $78 per child (5-18 years) Santa Barbara is one of the most beautiful small cities in the world. Guests invariably feel transported to a magical time and place in this city filled with unique architecture and relaxed vibes. Begin this unique tour by visiting Old Mission Santa Barbara, which is known as the Queen of the California Missions. The Mission’s sanctuary and chapel are still in use today, as is the Sacred Garden, which used to be closed to female visitors, with the exception of royalty or political wives, until 1959! After touring the Mission, head towards downtown Santa Barbara. The best way to discover the city is by following the steps of the famed “Red Tile” walking tour, which is a pleasant walk through just 12 short blocks in downtown Santa Barbara. Along the way, discover many of the city's oldest and most fascinating landmarks such as the Santa Barbara County Courthouse. This castle-like Spanish-Mediterranean stucco building lies in the center of Santa Barbara as a gleaming, glorious piece of architecture. The courthouse is recognized as one of the nation’s most outstanding public buildings for both its exterior and interior, and the Courthouse tower is one of the highest points in downtown Santa Barbara. Views from atop the Courthouse extend 360 degrees, offering marvelous sights of downtown, the harbor, Stearns wharf, various churches in Santa Barbara, and the majestic mountains of Santa Barbara. Continue to El Presidio de Santa Barbara State Historic Park, Spain's last government outpost in America. Founded April 21, 1782, the Santa Barbara Royal Presidio was the last in a chain of four military fortresses built by the Spanish along the coast of Alta California, then a wilderness frontier. The Park encompasses the original Presidio site and is a living history site interpreting the Spanish, Mexican, and Native American heritage of Santa Barbara. Includes: Round trip transportation, bottled water on vehicle, admission and donation fees, guides, taxes and gratuities. Minimum 20 persons TUESDAY, OCTOBER 20, 2009 ►Lotusland Tour 1:30pm-3:45pm $92 per adult $76 per child (5-18 years) Montecito is cherished for its elaborate, grandiose estates, many of which have unique histories. A 37-acre living museum of gardens nestled in the foothills of Montecito; Lotusland is one of the most spectacular properties in California, revered for its august architecture and resplendent gardens. The estate has a long history that dates back to the late 1800’s. It began its transformation to its present state when it was purchased in 1941 by the well-known opera singer, Madame Ganna Walska who made the property a spiritual refuge. In creating the gardens, the artistic Madame experimented freely with bold forms and unusual color combinations. She contrasted serene, traditional vistas with daring theatrical displays; Lotusland features a wide array of distinctive elements—a charming outdoor theatre, elaborate topiary garden, horticultural clock, Neptune fountain, formal parterre, and hedged allées—which have all been preserved immaculately. Her striking botanic collections of aloes, bromeliads, cacti, various other succulents, cycads, ferns and palms are continually improved and enhanced so that Lotusland remains a breathtaking haven teeming with entirely unique landscaping. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the tour covers 1½ - 2 miles over many gravel-surfaced paths. Includes: Round trip transportation, admission fees, guide, taxes and gratuities. Upon approaching the Santa Ynez wine country, it’s easy to understand why poets have rhapsodized about the nectar of the grape throughout the ages. The first winery on the tour is Firestone Winery which is majestically situated on 260 acres of vineyards. Overlooking the vineyard is the winery, an impressive structure that is modern in concept yet classic in design. Cathedral-like rooms house row upon row of oak barrels and casks. The winery's reputation for producing exceptional and unique wines continues to grow. Enjoy a tour of the facility. After tasting some of the latest wines in production, enter the private patio, the perfect setting for a picnic lunch. NOTE: Bottles of wine will be available for purchase with your lunch. Continue to Gainey Vineyard, which is situated on an 1800-acre ranch that extends along carefully landscaped grounds graced by tall sycamore trees and sweeping views. The winemaking equipment at Gainey is as modern as the views are ageless. Enter the vintner’s tasting room to sample the treasures created by the surrounding vines. Next is Sunstone Winery, where the sights are incredibly reminiscent of the French Countryside. Enjoy this simple yet elegant vineyard that blossoms with a profusion of wildflowers, jasmine and lavender amidst ivy-lined architecture reminiscent of Provence. It’s a truly elegant, yet rustic treasure of the Santa Ynez Valley. As the journey continues, it’s possible to see miniature horses, llamas, emus and ostriches before reaching the Pacific Ocean and winding the way down the rugged coast back to Santa Barbara.
