UNAPPROVED MINUTES REGULAR CITY COUNCIL MEETING MONDAY, OCTOBER 7, 2013 Mayor Benton called the regular meeting to order at 6:03 p.m. at the Hillsborough Town Hall, 1600 Floribunda Avenue, Hillsborough, California. Mayor Benton announced that Councilmember Royse would be participating in the City Council meeting by teleconference from Grand Forks, North Dakota, and therefore all votes should be taken by roll call as required by the Brown Act. ROLL CALL: Present: Benton, May, Chuang, Christianson By Teleconference: Royse City Manager Randy Schwartz introduced the Town’s new Associate Civil Engineer Kevin Fehr and Interim Management Analyst Kevin Buchanan, who would be making a presentation later in the evening. Mayor Benton introduced Hillsborough Little League Coach Larrin Andrews to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE MINUTES: The minutes of the September 9, 2013 City Council meeting were approved as submitted. PRESENTATIONS: ● Mayor Benton presented the Hillsborough Little League with Certificates of Recognition for winning the 2013 District 52 Majors Superbowl Tournament - Hillsborough Majors Superbowl Team: JR Andrews, Jack Connolly, Ricky DuPont, Nate Fleischli, Daniel Gilmartin, Warren Long, Aidan Macaluso, Aidan Pak, Scotty Petrushka, Nick Pina, Blake Todzo and Tucker Tollmann. Coach Larrin Andrews thanked the kids and their parents for their hard work and dedication. Coach Ken Tollman commented that he could not ask for a better team. ● Mayor Benton introduced Dr. D. Scott Smith, the Town's representative to the San Mateo County Mosquito and Vector Control District's Board of Trustees. Dr. Smith introduced the District’s Manager Dr. Bob Gay. Dr. Smith stated that he serves as a trustee on the District’s Board and that he is Chief of Infectious Disease and Geographic Medicine, Kaiser Redwood City, and a professor at Stanford University Medical School. Dr. Smith provided a Power Point presentation on the District's operations and stated that a $3.74 San Mateo County parcel tax supports infectious disease surveillance and activities for vector control in San Mateo County. He reported that the yellow fever mosquito, which can transmit yellow fever, dengue fever and chikungunya, was found in Fresno and Madera Counties in June of this year and in San Mateo County in August of this year.
