Sensational match at Spotless Stadium on Tuesday this week saw the Sydney Thunder get home in a last-ball win against traditional rivals Sydney Sixers. An impressive 4 for 14 off 4 overs by Sixers Daniel Sams, a former Bankstown Junior and Grade player, was not enough to stop the mighty Thunder. A big-hitting 77 off 46 balls by Shane Watson set up the win. Some late hitting by Arjun Nair and Aiden Blizzard saw Thunder reach the 150 run target with a last-ball single. GO THUNDER ! He won the toss, elected to bat and then put on an opening partnership of 43 with Luca Croft. They got us off to a great start and it took a direct hit from square of the wicket to run Harley out. Sadly, our batting fell away under the fast, straight attack of the Hornets, a side that boasts a bevy of representative players, and we found ourselves at 7 for 59 at the break. We bowled and fielded well on day one and put dot ball pressure on the Hornets. They lost wickets at 14 & 17, including a great catch at the wicket to Harley. Kai Allie then made his presence felt, clean bowling one and running out another of their batsmen. At the end of day one they were 4 for 87. The Hornets’ class shone through on day two, with 3 of their batsmen reaching retirement, but a ‘no ball’ call from square leg when one of that 3 was clean bowled first ball was a heart breaker. Bad luck Harry. Luca was on a hat trick when he hit the stumps twice and Matthew led the fielding with some great work behind square, but they were able to reach 190. With just 3 wickets in hand, our batsmen did a great job occupying the crease until the second last over against the best attack in the competition. Kristian Zanbaka 11 and Kai Allie 14 provided great support with Matthew posting 34 not out. Three times this year the Hornets have batted out their overs without losing a wicket. For us to take 6 with just 10 fielders and almost bat through our overs was a great effort. Well done to all. With a wicket, a run out and 14 runs, our man of the match is Kai Allie. Batting: Matthew Fitzgerald 34 no, Luca Croft 16, Harley Cutting 14, Kai Allie 14 Bowling: Luca Croft 2/31 from 5 overs, Kai Allie 1/8 from 4 overs, Zach Agius 1/8 from 4 overs, Harry Divan 1/13 from 4 overs Player of the Match: Kai Allie Under 12s Round 9 - St Christopher’s U12 7-231 def Revesby Workers U11 9-102 MyCricket scorecard A strong bounce back win by the Under 12’s finished the year in a positive manner. The most pleasing aspect was the all round team performance with contributions made from a range of players across the two days. Two stand out performances were from our Men of the Match. Jabir continues to improve his bowling consistency, taking three wickets for just nine runs in his four overs. Seany struck the ball the best he has all season to secure his first 30 rtno. We set an imposing 231 runs with strong contributions from Joshua, Daniel and Baha who needed a six off the last ball to score a half century. Unfortunately, he could only manage to smash it to the boundary for four. Mitchell and Josh supported Jabir’s excellent bowling, also taking three wickets each. A huge thank you to Michael Beattie and Tony Louka for stepping in and doing a great job coaching the boys in my absence. I am very lucky to have such a supportive parent group. Thanks for a great first half of the season and Merry Christmas to all our Saint Chrissy’s families Batting: Baha Dadarkar 49 no, Josh Trevitt 33 no, Daniel Louka 30 no, Sean Woodard 30 no, Cooper Sutton 12 Bowling: Josh Trevitt 3/4, Mitchell Rowles 3/7, Jabir Hossien 3/9 Player of the Match: Sean Woodard and Jabir Hossein PANANIA DIGGERS SUPPORTS SAINTS CRICKET Panania Diggers has kindly agreed to be a major supporter of St Christopher’s Cricket Club again this season by providing Player of the Week Awards for our junior teams, drink vouchers for our thirsty Senior players, as well as free access to venues for our club functions. The opposition only had 8 fielders albeit 8 rep players (that’s a discussion for another day). We knew if we could occupy the crease, the opposition would get frustrated and tired. I thought we did that well in the first session when we were 2 for 66 after some patient batting from Ben B 16, and Shervin 3.
