From Reader Review Spider-Gwen (2015) #2 for online ebook Brandon says Love the Spider-Ham interactions, also, I love her questioning herself in comparison to the other Spider hero's. A clever take on the whole character. The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears says Ever have that sensation of falling down a rabbit hole? Well, coming across Spider Ham (yes, a pig dressed in a Spiderman suit. Don't ask) has done that to me. But what a rush! Gwen Stacy and a web-slinging, corndog eating pig, plus The Kingpin and rock n' roll. Amber says Unfortunately I liked this issue even less then the first one. In fact I was very hard for me not to skim through it. Gwen has a lot of potential as a character and as a superhero but none of it feels realized or drawn upon. In this issue Gwen recovers from her previous fight with The Vulture and is now seeing hallucinations of Spider Ham for some reason. It's never explained why and it doesn't offer any direction or move the plot forward. Gwen's dad continues to try and protect her and Mary Jane just feels like a stuck up jerk. I didn't feel like she had any real depth. Overall it once again feels like nothing of any real interest really happens in this issue. Amanda says 4 Stars because Spider Pig. Perceptive says Even more disappointing than the first issue. The art and colors continue to be amazing, but the story: double UGH. Gwen does nothing proactive until the very last page, when she FINALLY decides to talk to the father who has been leaving her messages of support, love and help. She mopes and broods and hallucinates conversations with a cartoon pig version of Peter Parker, but we learn very little about what drives her as Spider-Woman or as Gwen. It's like the writer forgot she has two identities and a life before the spider-bite. This book really should be called George Stacy: Police Captain. Capt. His dilemmas and relationships are far more interesting than anything happening in Gwen's world. To absolutely no surprise on my part, Mary Jane Watson is even WORSE in this issue. She's jealous of Gwen's looks, even though canonically Mary Jane is also very attractive. But here, Mary Jane is just an evil nasty harpy for no discernible motive other than she's a stereotype of the worst sort. She's even jealous of Gwen's smelly sweatshirt Gwen found in a dumpster. She launches into a bitchy tirade aimed at Gwen even though Gwen has been out of touch for weeks and was found passed out, demonstrating Mary Jane has zero empathy or human feeling. Oh, and she buys Taylor Swift on vinyl and she uses stereotypical romance novel language to describe Gwen. So you know in the world of this comic, Mary Jane is just the most hateworthy thing ever. It's so sad and frustrating when male comic book creators think making long running female characters into harpy cariacatures for forced mean girl drama equals good conflict and good storytelling. Especially when this is a book in part created to right wrongs done to one iconic female comic book character; but the creators decide that means tearing down and demonizing another iconic female comic book character. It's sexist and lazy. Annise says SPIDER-HAM?! This little spider pig may be one of my favorite creatures. I love how the Gwen characters always have a little pig familiar. Adorable <3 Kaitlin says This is the second one in the Spider-Gwen series and I have to say it was, sadly, no improvement on the first one. the artwork was the same, the story didn't really improve, and my opinion of this series was lowered when an odd pig-spider character came into the story too making it just utterly laughable instead of just annoying. Clearly this series is not one I will end up enjoying and I don't intend to venture any further with the Spider Universe. I'd give this no stars really as it was just a waste of time sadly. Jessie Moore says Definitely picking up. I loved the cameo! Fantastic art. Noor says A LOT better than the first issue, but there's still something off about it all. It does give me a little DC vibe, and that's why I think I like it so much but besides that, it needs a lot of work. Spider ham though. I like you and your "nom-nom-nom"'s. Crystal Starr Light says Bullet Review: Not much forward momentum and I'm still getting DC flashbacks, but I'm starting to feel out how this series became such a sensation. I'll have to check out the trade for the rest of these issues. Scarlet Cameo says WTF!!??? Spider-ham? Really? Of all spidey version they can use choose him? Anyway, it wasbetter than #1 Caitlin says Although I preferred the first issue I still found myself drawn into the plot by, again, the colouring, art, and dialogue. Can't wait for the next issue! Solace Winter says You know why Spider-Man works? Because he lost his parents, his uncle, his girlfriend, friends, and more and he didn't turn into a whining, simpering little brat. This is why Spider-Man 3 was one of the least loved and fell apart. Spider-Man quips, he grieves, he moves on because he understands there is a world to save. Why do I bring this up? Because Gwen is the direct opposite. She broods like a teenage emo boy, she's not very likable, and her friends are even less so. She gets joined by her imaginary friend, Spider-Ham (it's not better) and she sort of stumbles her way through this particular comic as lost as the people who are putting this story together. The parts that do not involve Gwen at all are the most interesting parts, and that's a shame. How is it this novel would just be better as a detective/crime comic than a Spider-Verse comic? Sometimes going outside the box doesn't work. I'm loathe to give #3 a try. I felt like I was pushing on this one. They need to make someone, anyone, likable. I'm a character driven reader, and if the characters do nothing for me, the story just falls flat. JB says What is wrong with the people in charge of this series? They have/had the chance to do something great with a female lead, a female hero. And what do they do? They make it a boring story about a stereotypical teenage girl with stereotypical teenage girl problems. Come on people, make this right. This can be so much more. This story doesn't seem worth the confusion of an alternate universe, especially with minimal tie in with the main MU. PDF File: Spider-Gwen (2015) #2... 6.
