The last time the Grizzlies had a first‐round pick below No. 20 was when the team selected Xavier Henry at No. 12 overall in 2010. Vince Carter (No. 5 overall in 1998), Mike Conley (No. 4 overall in 2007) and Brandan Wright (No. 8 overall in 2007) are the only three players on the current Memphis roster to be selected in the first 17 picks of an NBA Draft. Matt Barnes (No. 46 overall in 2002), Mike Conley (No. 4 overall in 2007), Jordan Adams (No. 22 overall in 2014) and Jarell Martin (No. 25 overall in 2015) are the only four players on the current Memphis roster to be drafted by the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies have completed a draft‐night trade in 11 of their 15 drafts since moving to Memphis, including each of the last three drafts. The exceptions came in the 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2012 Drafts. Memphis has favored younger talents in recent drafts, selecting at least one underclassman in every draft since 2006 and a total of 12 in that 10‐ year span. Memphis’ second round selection this season (No. 57 overall) is owned by Toronto… The pick was acquired by the Raptors as part of a four‐team deal, also including the Mavericks and the Magic, on July 9, 2009. SOME FACTS ABOUT THE NO. 17 AND NO. 57 OVERALL DRAFT PICKS Notable recent No. 17 overall picks include current Hawks point guard Dennis Schroder (2013), Iman Shumpert (2011), the starting shooting guard for the 2016 NBA Champion Cavaliers, Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday (2009), Lakers center Roy Hibbert (2008), forward Danny Granger (2005) and Rockets forward Josh Smith (2004). Notable former No. 17 overall picks include Jermaine O’Neal (1996), Aaron McKie (1994) and Shawn Kemp (1989). o O’Neal enjoyed an 18‐year career that spanned three decades, the majority of which he played with the Pacers and Trail Blazers… He was a six‐time All‐Star selection, which came in consecutive seasons (2002‐07), a 2003‐04 All‐NBA Second Team member, a two‐time All‐NBA Third Team selection (2001‐02 ‐ 2002‐03) and the recipient of the NBA’s 2001‐02 Most Improved Player Award. o McKie earned the 2000‐01 Sixth Man of the Year Award and averaged 7.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists over a 13‐year career with four different teams. o The high‐flying Kemp played 14 seasons and averaged 14.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 1.2 blocks en route to six straight All‐Star appearances (1993‐98) and three consecutive All‐NBA Second Team selections (1993‐94 – 1995‐96). Notable No. 57 overall picks include Wizards center Marcin Gortat (2005) and Spurs guard Manu Ginobili (1999). o A native of Poland, Gortat was drafted in 2005 by the Phoenix Suns, but started his NBA career with the Magic in 2007… He has enjoyed a nine‐year career in which he’s averaged 10.3 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game. o Ginobili is the only No. 57 pick to make an NBA All‐Star team, representing the Western Conference in 2005 and 2011… He has donned the Spurs uniform for the entirety of his 14‐year career, which has included four NBA Championships, two All‐NBA Third Teams (2007‐08; 2010‐11), the 2007‐08 Sixth Man of the Year Award and multiple medals at the international level for Argentina… He holds career averages 14.0 points, 4.0 assists and 1.4 steals. Legendary NBA head coaches Phil Jackson (1967) and Don Nelson (1962) were both selected 17th overall in their respective drafts. The Grizzlies have never drafted at either the No. 17 or No. 57 spots. Former No. 17 pick Shawne Williams is a Memphis native and played collegiately for the University of Memphis (2005‐06) before declaring after his freshman season.
