The landscape Mn W H Ya R H Es GOLDFIELDS consists of an undulating, lateritic plateau with thin, swampy, minor valley R Qu Qu Qu BERRY R GOLDFIELDS Qu MAYNARD floors. However, in the east of this zone, eastward flowing streams and R H ROAD Y Es Y Ya Y Es Qu rivers such as Talbot Brook, Clackline Brook and Dale River have cut back Ya L R Mo R Ya L L Ya L Qu into this plateau creating steep, gravelly (lateritic) and rocky valleys. Y R Mo Y Mn R ROAD Mn R Y The West Kokeby Zone occurs as a small area in the south of the study area ROAD L Es Qu Es Es R Y Es nestled between the Darling Range Zone and the Zone of Rejuvenated L Ya Mo BOYERCUTTY H Es Y Es Y Qu Drainage. Dissection of the lateritic profile has left a low lying, flat sandy BROW Y L L R L Y A R Y Mo landscape with gently undulating side slopes. A number of swamps occur on Ya Y Y L Es Belmunging Qu the valley floor. Qu Y Qu Qu ROAD L Y Qu Y Y K R K H Qu Es Ya Yalanbee Mn Ya R H ROAD Pn Mn H Mn A Es R R Y Undulating, Darling Range Plateau with long, smooth slopes (1-8%) Mn Y Es Es L Pn L Mn R Qu Y containing 'buckshot gravel' soils. This unit often occurs above a breakaway Ya Ya DOODENANNING L L H Es and may have lateritic boulders on the surface. ROAD H A MACKIE Qu Y Y R R Qu L Y YORK Y Y Qu R Ya R DOODENANNING Qu Pn Pindalup R H Y Es R Y S Mo Qu Swampy, often saline, narrow valley floors found within the Darling Range L Y Es R Qu Es L L Ya R Es Y R Y Plateau. These valleys have a concave shape with slopes along the L R R H Mn H L Es creekline of less than 1%. Much of this unit is affected by salinity. Pn S Mn R R Mo Es S GREAT Y Y K L ROAD Y Qu Qu L Leaver Mn Es ROAD Qu S SOUTHERN R H A Y Y K Y MAWSON Gently inclined to steep (2-30%) gravelly slopes and ridges that occur in L Mn Y Ya Mt. Hardey Y Es R K H R the dissected Darling Range Zone. The dominant soil type is an orange, Mn H Ya Ya R Y gravelly loamy sand over clay. Ya R Es Qu Ya R Mo This unit also includes the breakaway face. STATE 470 H Es Mo Es Es Qu Es 470 R K ROAD A H Mn Michibin L HIGHWAY Mn L L QUAIRADING Y L Y Y Qu Y Steep, irregular hills with slopes of 2-12% containing rocky, red and R R A R Mo Es ROAD brownish grey loamy soils formed from freshly exposed bedrock. Commonly R found on the mid slopes adjacent to rock outcrop. K H R RIVER DOODENANNING Qu CUBBINE Es Mn Mn KNOTTS Mn R ROAD Y Es 000mE L Y Es Y Mo R Greenhills Qu Y W Williams L R Y ROAD R ROAD Qu Valley floors of the major tributary streams in the western part of the 460 L Y Es survey area containing mixed alluvial soils. Usually less than 100 m wide R R YORK Y L with slope gradients of less than 1%. R H Y Qu FOREST Pn Y Qu L H L R H R EAST Mo Es K Kokeby R Kauring Y R R R ROAD Qu Qu Gently undulating hillslopes (2-6%) common in the West Kokeby and Dale A CUBBINE K ROAD areas containing pale, sandy surfaced soils with some gravelly ridges. Ya H R Es L R ROAD Qu R Y Es Pn Qu Es Es S Sheahan Y Y Mo HELENA L A Y Pockets of deep, pale sand that often occur in hollows (1-6%) within the R R Mo Y QUAIRADING Y Qu L Qu Es Kokeby soil landscape unit. Mn R R Y GWAMBYGINE Qu Qu W TALBOT L Y Da Dale Mo Y L Y Es Qu Broad, valley floors (0-1%) found in the West Kokeby and Dale River areas L H H Y Qu containing sand over clay and pale sand. Low lying areas are prone to Ya R Es Qu waterlogging and salinity. H Y Y Ya L A R Balkuling L Es H Ma Maitland W Y Es Swamps and very poorly drained areas found within the Dale soil landscape Mn L Mo Mo Es L R unit in the West Kokeby and Dale areas. Mn H Qu Es TOP H L Ya R Y Mo Mo 460 W Mn L Mo Es Mawson Mo L Y R R Es 460 Ya Ya H Ya R R Es 32°S R Y 32°S Ya L L Es YORK THE ZONE OF REJUVENATED DRAINAGE Qu POTTS BEVERLEY R Y Qu TALBOT L R Qu Qu This zone is defined by the Meckering Line to the east and the Darling L Mn Y R Es Range Zone to the west. ie the inner wheatbelt and Avon Valley. L R R Mo Qu Y Y Mn L Y Mn Qu The Zone of Rejuvenated Drainage is characterized by greater dissection of Y the landscape than the Zone of Ancient Drainage thus forming steeper, L Ya Qu Qu Es Es Y narrower valleys which contain rivers and creeklines that flow every winter. Pn L R H L Qu R H Qu Mn Mn ROADH Es Es Mo Qu Quailing K Qu Mo L Y Y Undulating upland areas and catchment divides often found above a K Ya R Qu R R H Y breakaway. The soils consist of yellow and pale sandplain and gravelplain. Mn L R Es Y Qu Y Slopes are 0-5%. Also includes areas of deep spillway sands that have Mn YORK Ya R moved off the plateau onto adjacent area of hillslopes. Ya Es SANDGATE Y Qu L WEST R A Y Es R Es Es Ewerts R Es Es Y R Mo Es Hillslopes (2-10%) containing predominantly sand and loamy sand over ROAD Mn W R Y Qu yellowish clay soils with some gravel ridges and some heavier soils. Ya L L Es Ya A H Y Y Y York R Ya H GREAT Es Mo Mn Es Steep, irregular hills with slopes of 3-12% containing rocky, red and Mn Mn R Mo Y Mn Y Qu Qu brownish grey loamy soils formed from freshly exposed bedrock. Commonly L R BEVERLEY H W R L found on the mid and upper slopes of the landscape adjacent to rock Mn ROAD Es Mo Qu Qu U ROAD R Qu outcrop. Mn R Mn R Qu Y L R Mn R Y H L H Hamersley Y H L R R R Es Thin, minor drainage lines that occur midslope within the York soil L H R Es landscape unit and lead down to the major drainage systems. Waterlogged L R Qu greyish loamy soils. Slopes are 1-6%. Mn L Es Y Mn A Es L Y A Ya A Avon H R Qu Y Qu 450 450 Ya R SOUTHERN Es U Alluvial terraces and floodplains adjacent to the Avon, lower Mortlock and Ya K A Es Qu lower Dale rivers containing red loamy, grey clayey and orange sandy soils.
