Mobley ColIinsworth Winter 1970 -151 THE PRESIDENT'S LETTER Dear Members: Hllen you receive your issue of "Ansearchin'" News, it will be almost the end of the year. We feel that it' has been a good year with SOme changes, brought on by the growth of our Society. We have moved into our offLce at 2233 Madison Avenue, which will centralize our properties. Our Editor and Librarian can function more efficiently in this space, which being in a mid-town location is also convenient for our members. Further information will be given on meeting notices; . We have arranged with the Main Library, McLean and Peabody, for meetings in January, April, July and October, every third Monday, 7:30 p.m. (subject to change). We ar~ considering inviting a speaker for a one-day seminar instead of a night meeting. In any case, members will be notified. lie have had many compliments on our speakers and a day seminar gives time for the speaker to do justice to his subject. Last year, the Society bought a microfilm reader for the Editorial Staff's use. \.J'e expect delivery soon on another reader for our members I use in the office. We will order microfilmed court records of Tennessee which are available. At our new location, we need chairs and tables, so i.f you have either and feel generous, we are in a receptive mood. We are s~ddened by the death of Miss Bernice Cole, Research Director and Query Editor. Bernice was a person of sound judgement and reliability. She will be greatly missed. Due to our loss of Bernice, the queries are being edited by Mrs. Henry N. Moore, Associate Editor. Understandably, there is some delay, but Mrs. Moore will be ready for this issue. At this time, the office of Query Editor has not been filled. Mrs. Reeves Hughes, Jr. has been elected by the Board to fill Miss Cole's position of Research Director. We are indeed fortunate to have Mrs. Hughes accept. Betty is an excellent worker and thoroughly interested in genealogy, having Virginia and South Carolina ancestors of note. Betty was a Legal Secretary before her present career, mother of two sons and wife to Mr. Reeves Hughes, Jr., breeder of Registered Angus Cattle. Their home and farm is near Germantown, Tenn. We look forward to having her work with us. Mr. John Frederick Dorman was our guest speaker, October 17, on Virginia and Maryland. To have had Mr. Dorman as our final speaker of the year sets a precedent for us. We think he was impressed with our contributions to the Genealogical Section of Cossitt-Goodwyn Library. We found him a delightful personaIity. A reminder--we will have someone capable at our study meetings to assist those who wish to further their family lines from material gleaned from research. On arrival, please sign name list. Don't forget to have your data organized. It is next to impossible to grasp the facts otherwise. There is a very helpful article in THE GENEALOGICAL HELPER, Dec. 1963, March 1964, June 1964, Dec. 1964. This is a very detailed and comprehensive article. Would you believe that I copied every word? ~/ Sin;erely , ~~4~',-,'. ~<.C- Katherine M. oung ~ "Ansearchin'" News -152- NOTES FROM THE EDITOR'S DESK Your editor is working with a heavy heart, this issue, due to the loss of not only a beloved friend, but also of a very talented Query Editor. Miss Bernice Cole, who passed away, suddenly, on October 17, 1970, has been a reliable source of comfort to your editor ever since she tackled this job for "Ansearchin'" News.
