PROLOGUE I was David Finkelsten's student from the 1980s until his death on 24 January 2016. They are matrix algebras whose entries are either Real Numbers (green in the diagram on the following page), Complex Numbers (white) or Quaternions (yellow). The diagram shows some Real Clifford Algebras Cl(p,q) for real vector spaces of signature (p,q). The p=0 line is Cl(0,q) = Cl(q).
