REDDY Director I/c., NIT Warangal Hon'ble Chief Guest Padma Shree Sanjay Dhande, Members of the Board of Governors, Members of the Senate, Members of the Faculty and Staff of NIT Warangal, Graduands of this year and their proud parents, Members of the Press and Media, other invitees and guests, I take immense pleasure in welcoming you all to the Fourteenth Convocation of this institute. My hearty congratulations to all theGraduands.In fact, it is the beginning of a new and brilliant chapter in your lives. On this happy occasion, I would like to present briefly a report on the achievements of NIT Warangal. I also take this as an opportunity tointroduce our institute to the Chief Guest of today's ceremony. NIT Warangal offers eight programmes at UG leveland 32programmes at master's level. This number is the highest among all NITs. The institute also offers doctoral programmes in all branches of engineering, Sciences, Management and Humanities departments. So far518doctoral degrees in all the disciplines have been awarded by NITW. The institute is a recognized QIP centre for masters and doctoral programmes in many departments Accreditation by NBA NIT Warangal has applied for accreditation of its UG and eligible PG programmesand has been granted accreditation for all the programmes. I am proud to say that NIT Warangal is the only NIT to have won this distinction. Research and Consultancy, Honors and awards One of the major strengths of NIT Warangal is the constant focus on quality research and it is heartening to note that many faculty especially the younger ones are keenly engaged in research in their areas of specializations. Presently there are 43 R & D projects worth about Rs. 12.94 crores funded by sponsoring agencies like DST, DBT, DeitY, DRDO, CSIR, BRNS, NRB and UGC. About 30 of our young faculty are engaged in Fast Track Research Projects funded by DST. The revenue earned through consultancy 5 and testing from August 2015 toAugust2016 is Rs. 89 lakhs with the Structures Division of the Civil engineering department contributing a lion's share of Rs. 48 lakhs. Several faculty members have been active on the research front applying for and receiving approvals for major projects. Dr. Sachin Jain received DST Project titled "Optimized and Standalone PV system for rural Application" for worth of 30 lakhs while Dr. P. Chandrasekhar received SERB DST project titled "Minimization of storage requirement in renewable rich smart micro-grid through coordinated control of resources" for 50 Lakhs. Department of Mechanical engineering has grabbed four R&D and consultancy projects worth Rs. 1.10 crore sanctioned to the faculty in the last one year besides, ongoing projects worth Rs. 5.40 crores make the department a truly vibrant place to work in. Electrical engineering department had a rich and fulfilling year with many faculty members receiving awards for various achievements... Narasimharaju B. L, Goutham Bharma, Ramanjaneya Reddy U, and Vijay Babu K received Best Paper award for the paper titled "Modeling and Analysis of Voltage Controlled Positive Output Synchronous buck-boost converter", at IEEE India Conf. INDICON-2015. Mr. N. Harshavardhan, and Ch. Venkaiah received the Best Paper award for the paper titled "Electricity price forecasting of Deregulated market using ELMAN neural network" at IEEE India Conf. INDICON-2015. Mr. N. Harshavardhan received POSOCO Power System Award for his M.Tech Project Titled "Electricity price forecasting of Deregulated market using ELMAN neural network" under the guidance of Dr. Ch. Venkaiah. Ms. Chintakindi Sruthi Reddy received POSOCO Power System Award for herM.Tech Project Titled "Detection of Harmonics and Their Real Time Analysis By Windowed Interpolated FFT" under the guidance of Prof. D.V.S.S. Siva Sarma, Mr. Bhanu Prasad Chintala received POSOCO Power System Award for his M.Tech Project Titled "Probabilistic Optimal Power Flow With Wind, Solar Power Generation And Energy Storage Integration" under the guidance of Dr. Ch. Venkaiah, Mr. Arpan Hota and Dr. Sachinjain received Elecrama-2016 Award. It goes to the credit of Chemical Engineering department that Mr. Bhaskar Bethi, Research Scholar, working under the guidance of Dr. Shirish H Sonawane secured the prestigious Prime Minister's fellowship for Doctoral research from SERB-CII, Govt. of India. Mr. A. Yerrayya working under the guidance of Dr. PV Suresh received the IIChEAmbuja's Young Researcher's Award - 2015 for Best M.Tech Thesis for his work on 'Exergy Analysis of Chemical Looping Combustion (CLC) Integrated IGCC Power Plant'. The II ChE Student Chapter of NITW Warangal bagged the IIChEAmbuja's Best Student Chapter Award for the year 2015. Dr. K. Anand Kishore, Head, Dept. of Chemical Engineering received outstanding scientist award for the year 2015 from Venus International Foundation, Chennai. 6 The Metallurgy and Materials Department has on hand Research and Consultancy Projects worth 31.8 Lakhs. Dr. G. Brahma Raju is the proud recipient of INAE research fellowship to work for 2 months in Europe. Dr. Asim Bikas Das has been assigned Travel Grant to travel to Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), Barcelona, Spain to attend whole cell modeling course at Barcelona, Spain. The Biotechnology department grabbed projects worth Rs. 78 lakhs. A number of students and faculty members won prizes for poster presentation. Dr. Kohila and her student, Dr. Urmila and her student and Dr. Prakash Saudagar saw their posters win prizes at national and international levels. Dr. Rama Raju received Young Scientist Award-2015 from Scientific Planet Society, India. Similarly, Dr. K. Narasimhulu received the Young Faculty award 2015 and Young Scientist award from Venus International foundation Chennai. Many students have shown their competitive spirit and secured scholarships and internships abroad under DAAD and other agencies and participated in training abroad. Sumithra. B, a Ph.D. student working under supervision of Dr. Asim Bikas Daswon best poster awardat the International conference on Stem cells and Cancer (ICSCC) 2015, Pune in October 2015. The Newton -Babha Fellowship for 2015-16 went to Mr. Bhaskar Birru, a researcher in biotechnology department, to enable him to visit the University of Sheffield, UK for nine months. The Khorana Program for Scholars Awards, 2016 went to Mr. Murlidhar Pandey enabling him to spend a semester at University of South Carolina, USA Enrolment into PhD programmes has been steadily on the rise and the number of research publications in SCI and Scopus indexed journals as well as reputed peer reviewed journals has been on the rise.
