THE FRONTIER LEAGUE CHEERLEADING BY-LAWS UPDATED 10/2019 General • All Frontier League and National Federation Rules will apply throughout the entire season at games, practices, and competitions including All-Star competition. • Coaches are encouraged to attend all pre-league and post season meetings in order to stay abreast of rule changes and rubric updates. There are three (3) meetings per year. • Cheerleaders will be accompanied by a coach to all games and competitions. • Athletic Director should supply each coach with the newest NFHS Spirit Rule Book. Competition • Divisional Alignments: Division competition must have at least two (2) teams competing. If not, division will be combined with another division. • Coaches who have competitive teams must be certified coaches. • NYS Rubrics and score sheets will be used by the judges. • Coaches must have licensed music and present the license to the event producer. • You may not approach a judge in regards to your score. If there is an issue, please report it to the Frontier League Chairperson. • Positive fan signs are allowed at competitions. • During the Awards’ Ceremony, your team should be in full uniform without cell phones. • Medals will be given to first (1st) place and ribbons to all other placements up to third (3rd) place at Leagues. • By coaches’ vote, one (1) spirit/sportsmanship will be given to one (1) team at Fall and Winter Leagues. • By coaches’ vote, one (1) coach from each division will be recognized as Coach of the Year at Fall and Winter Leagues unless there is only one (1) coach in a division; then we may combine divisions and that will be discussed at coaches’ meeting. All-Star • Coaches nominate up to thirty percent (30%) of team for All-Star recognition based on athleticism, character, leadership, dedication to the sport of Cheerleading, and adherence to the rules. Athletes must participate in the team competition at Frontier League in order to be awarded this honor. Games • Schools will provide bleachers for home and away cheerleaders as well as an appropriate place for visiting team to change. Coaches remind team not to bring valuable to games. • No stomping in bleachers. • No mechanical noisemakers. • No organized cheer during foul shots at basketball games. • No booing or negative cheers. • No derogatory signs. • No signs at playoffs. No visitors’ signs. • Cheerleaders remain seated while the ball is in play for basketball games. • No stunting, tumbling, or floor cheers during the thirty (30) second timeout in basketball. • No stunting or tumbling while the ball is in play including warm-ups where you may be doing a Hello Cheer. • Only one (1) floor cheer per timeout. Visiting cheer team will go first and then alternate. • If host team has a pep band, the home cheerleaders will give them every other one of their timeouts in the rotation so visiting and home have equal amount of time on the floor. • Half-time routine may have positive signs only. • Follow the NFHS rules for hair, glitter, and jewelry. Protest Procedure: A. Rule Book Protest Procedure to be followed, if any. B. Rule Book’s interpretation of the rules to be followed. C. Refer to Frontier League Protest Procedures. .
