Aoife (pronounced “Eefa”) Clancy is the daughter of the late Bobby Clancy of the Clancy Brothers who led a revival of Celtic music in the 1970s and often backed legendary Tommy Makem. Born and raised in the small town of Carrick-on-Suir, in County Tipperary, Ireland, Aoife learned music at her father’s knee. But she soon developed her own refreshing voice and a repertoire, which now includes both Irish traditional and contemporary folk songs, and ballads as well. She has toured internationally and recorded with the popular Celtic group “Cherish the Ladies” and she has released three CDs of her own. Her latest Silvery Moon on the Appleseed label has garnered worldwide acclaim. Mike Jackson of The Canberra Times said, “Her singing would melt packed ice with its warmth and richness.” Silvery Moon concludes with a tender version of Kisses Sweeter Than Wine on which Clancy is joined by her esteemed father. He died soon after the recording. Clancy headlined the Boston area “Celtic Connections” festival in June.
