Since most know that our last year’s Chair, Terry Delapa, was the first female Chair in the 106 year history of Rubber Division, ACS, it is fitting to Student Colloquium & return to a Convention Center where in 2012, the Rubber Division was the first venue for Pittsburgh to show- case their newly remodeled center. Therefore, it is with great humility that I follow Terry’s lead this year. Yet I Poster Session . .49 wonder, does anyone know what David Lawrence’s middle name is? I bet I know. Back to this year’s conference. Don’t miss the Keynote Address, Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. As earlier stated, I follow the first female chair, so in honoring her, I was fortunate enough to have Firuza Mir, President & CEO, Speaker Index . .53 Lanxess Sybron Inc., Head of Region, Americas for Liquid Purification Technologies, provide a talk on “Water Treatment, Current and Future Trends.” I also hope that you are able to attend the Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting. Although I was more fashionably dressed at last year’s Ribbon Cutting, I trust that I won’t disappoint this year. Make no mistake, Educational Rubber Division, ACS, including the staff, committees and volunteers do their best to provide an event well Symposium . .55 worth your time. This year is no exception. The Program Planning Committee has put together a structured and varied Technical Program with over 120 scheduled papers. It is our hope and desire that these are topics of in- terest to you. We also have our 13th Annual Student Colloquium and Poster Session. If time permits, please stop in as all the students look forward to interfacing with all representatives from our diverse industry. Program Planning As the incoming 2016 Chair of Rubber Division, ACS, one of my goals was to recruit those with ‘Passion’ Committee . .57 that share our Vision of ‘Enhancing science, technology and business across the evolving elastomeric com- munity’ by either being a passionate Champion or Team Member for one of the four established Goals of our 2016-2020 Strategic Plan. Our goals are: Executive Committee & Rubber Goal 1: Develop and Implement a recruitment and retention plan that entices individuals, companies Division, ACS Staff . .58 and organizations to be active members. Goal 2: Develop strategic partnerships and collaboration with industry leaders globally. Goal 3: Be the premier global elastomeric resource providing cutting edge education, science, tech- nology, and business related information, programs and activities. General Information . .60 Goal 4: Develop and communicate messages that convey the relevance, critical importance and value of elastomers to the global community. I have accomplished one goal in that I have appointed champions for the four goals. Leonard Thomas, retired and 2013 Past Chair champions Goal #1.
