INTRODUCTION A Resource Book of Aerospace Activities, was written to help teacherTiaiFiteaerospace content with the regular learning experiences in the classroom. The activities contained in this volume are grouped by subject headingsas follows: Development of Fight, Pioneers of the Air (biography), ArtificialSatellites and Space Probes; Manned Space Flight, The Vastness ofSpace, and Future Space Ventures. Poetry related to flight andspace travel is contained in Appendix A. The individual activities in theseareas contain suggestions for bringing aerospace concepts into languagearts, mathematics, physical education, social studies, andmany other sub- jects. A teacher using these activities will findmany suggestions for sparking children's interest in everyday learningtasks. A routine arithmetic drill, for instance, might capture the pupils'imagination if it concerns some of the mathematical problemsof space travel. Interest in creative writing might be sparked by havingchildren write about space travel or about whatwe might discover on the other planets. Using the universe or space travelas a theme might help inspire artistic creativity in children. Each activity is accompanied by lists of mediaappropriate to the subject. Books, pamphlets, films, filmstrips, magazinearticles, charts and models are included in these lists. Grade levels for which these materials are most suitable are indicated by the followingcode: p (primary, K-3);j (intermediate, 4-6); ane t (teacher--includes junior high, senior high and adult). The material can be adapted foruse in all of the elementary grades to stimulate students' interest in and understandingof the scientific and social advancements being made by mankindas a result of aerospace research and development.
