ABSTRACT The Pulicat Lake, largest brackish water lagoon in South India, is a shallow depression and spreads over an area of 460 Sq.km. Pulicat was a Seaport in one of few Natural harbours on the Coromandel Coast of South India. The purpose of this research is to examine the Origin and Growth of Pulicat. The major findings of this paper is to study the historical background and significance of Pulicat, to provide a better understanding about the causes and consequences of trade in the Coromandel Coast of Pulicat, to trace out the changing scenario of the Pulicat City and to study the flora and faunas of the Pulicat Lake.
