Celebrations around the World Victoria Day is celebrated in Canada on the Monday before May 24. It is held to honor Queen Victoria of England who was born on May 24, 1819. When she was 18 years old she became queen of England. She and her husband, Prince Albert, had ten children. Her children and their descendants rules over much of Europe, which led to Queen Victoria’s nickname, “grandmother of Europe.” She died on January 22, 1901, at the age of eight- one. She ruled England longer than anyone in British history. Queen Victoria ruled during the Industrial Revolution. She knew that tech- nology was important and encouraged her hus- band to organize the Great Exhibition of 1851. This was a showcase of technology that was held for six months. More than six million people visited the exhibit. The time period during which she was queen is called the Victorian Era. lunCh Menu for the Week of May 10-14 ’ 5/10—Bean & Cheese Burrito, Corn, Raisins, Milk, Choc FF rd Congratulations to Mrs. Byrom’s 3 grade 5/11– Chicken Patty Sandwich, th class and Mrs. Thomas’ 4 grade class for Baked Beans, Sidekicks Blue being the most spirited classes on campus!
