The information is also disseminated through the webpage: www.traffic4cyprus.org.cy • Data from that system is shared for research purposes and steps are under way to make that public for private web services developers: www.cestrin.ro/web2014/nap_eueip/ 61 DIAVLOS Parking Management: • A system for calculating the available parking spaces has been installed in 5 central parking areas of Nicosia under the project DIAVLOS. The information is available to road users via electronic signs on the road and the web application: www.traffic4cyprus.org.cy • The data from DIAVLOS was made available for the development of a smart phone application by the Municipality of Nicosia • Potential to expand throughout Cyprus Lessons Learned • Road efficiency can be improved without building new infrastructure. • Provision of “real ” time information to drivers and passengers of vehicles, minimize the travel time of vehicles. • Smart solutions can save money and offer significant benefits like: • Reduction in accidents • Reduction of pollutants, eg emission of CO2 • Implementing pilot studies with countries/cities that have the same characteristics, is more beneficial as the results can be fully transformed and adopted. .
