It debuted in 1998 at The Rivoli in Toronto and opened on Broadway on May 1, 2006. The Drowsy Chaperone was nominated for a record-breaking 13 Tony Awards and won 5 including Best Book and Best Score. The show has also had productions in London, Japan and Australia as well as 2 North American tours. Fun Facts The Drowsy Chaperone started when McKellar, Lambert and Morrison created a spoof of old musicals for the stag party of Bob Martin and Janet Van de Graaff. After its initial presentation, Bob joined his friends on stage and joked, “What a wonderful show. I have some notes.” Those notes would be inspiration for the “Man in Chair” character, the narrator of the show, played
