Summer 1998: "Effect of -amyloid protein on rat basal forebrain in vitro" o Supervisor: Dr. Jack Jhamandas, MD, PhD, Associate Professor, Division of Neurology, University of Alberta. Duties included: o Preparation of rat brain tissue o Electrophysiology and microscopy o Developed computerized data entry and analysis tools for use by lab personnel. Summer 1997: "Injury prevention: epidemiology, monitoring, and intervention" o Supervisor: Dr. Louis H. Francescutti, MD, PhD, MPH, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Health Sciences and Division of Emergency Medicine, University of Alberta. Duties included: o Designed research protocol for evaluating the print media's description of injuries o Wrote and co-ordinated production of two grant applications o Prepared briefing document on injury for The Honourable Iris Evans, Minister of Municipal Affairs for the Province of Alberta o Co-wrote an instruction manual for a hand-held computer injury tracking system for use by EMS personnel. Member of Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research (FAIR) from Summer 2005 to present. Research interests have focused heavily on the Joseph Smith period (1820–1844), and on plural marriage from 1830–1911. Authored "Polygamy, Prophets, and Prevarication: Frequently and Rarely Asked Questions about the Initiation, Practice, and Cessation of Plural Marriage in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints" (Mesa, Arizona: FAIR, November 2005). History of Plural Marriage in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter- day Saints (1830–1844): Presentation to Miller-Eccles Study Group, Plano Texas, August 2007 (2 hours). Favorite artists include: The Beatles, Glenn Gould, U2, Jacques Brel, The Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Sting, David Gray, John Mayer, Fountains of Wayne, Counting Crows, Great Big Sea, Sarah McLachlan, Marc Cohn, Elton John, Bedouin Soundclash, Flight of the Conchords, Leonard Cohen, and anything by JS Bach. Active interest in English literature; while an honors physiology major I took sufficient course weight for a minor in English. I continue to read widely, especially in philosophy, Church history, religious studies, art, architecture, European and American history, and fantasy/science fiction. .
