RESOLUTION NO. _______OF 2014 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO DEDICATE THE 1000 AND 1100 BLOCK S OF DASHIEL STREET IN HONOR OF THE 6 0 TH ANNIVERSARY OF KSLA NEWS 12 AND TO OTHERWISE PROVIDE WITH RESPECT THERETO. BY: COUNCILMAN JEFF EVERSON WHEREAS , Councilman Jeff Everson has requested that the 1000 and 1100 block s of Dashiel Street be dedicated in honor of the 60 th Anniversary of KSLA News 12 (KSLA); and WHEREAS, KSLA was the first televis ion station to sign on in Shreveport o n January 1, 1954; and WHEREAS, KSLA was the first station in the Ark-La-Tex to have its own live radar, and to broadcast in color and HD (high definition); and WHEREAS, KSLA has operated in the public interest for more than 60 years and its audience spans over 26 parishes and counties in Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma; and WHEREAS, KSLA supports numerous non-profit and charitable organizations through its partnership and on-air coverage including: Community Renewal International House of Hope Annual “Coats for Kids” drive with Goodwill and Porter’s Cleaners Annual “Fan Drive” with the Caddo Council on Aging Baron’s Ball benefit for the American Cancer Society Holiday Food Drive for the Food Bank Shreveport Regional Arts Council; and WHEREAS, KSLA with over 90 employees is the most watched television station in the Shreveport viewing area and its newscasts are the number one source for news and emergency weather information; and WHEREAS , KSLA is more than what you see on television : It’ s online through ksla.com with an average of 1.7 million page views , on mobile , and through social media with 5.6 million page views; and WHEREAS, KSLA ’s “Coverage You Can Count On”, “We Track Storms”, and Editorials keeps viewers safe and informed; and WHEREAS , KSLA has won its share of awards over the years including Louisiana Television Station of the Year and an Edward R. Murrow Regional Award. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Shreveport in due, legal and regular session convened, that the Mayor on behalf of the City is authorized to dedicate the 1000 and 1100 block s of Dashiel Street in the honor of the 60th Anniversary of KSLA News 12. BE IT FURTHER RES OLVED that if any provision or item of this resolution or the application thereof is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the other provisions, items or applications of this resolution which can be given effect without the invalid provisions of this resolution are hereby declared severable.
