Food Hubs for Families in Need

Food hubs for families in need THE council is setting up four food hubs across Carmarthenshire for families in need. It means children who are entitled to free school meals will also receive dry food supplies to feed the whole family. The council has teamed up with Cross Hands-based food supplier Castell Howell to help families who may be experiencing financial difficulty as a result of the coronavirus outbreak. The food hubs are being piloted at four county secondary schools - Bryngwyn School in Llanelli, QE High School in Carmarthen, Ysgol Dyffryn Aman in Ammanford and Ysgol Dyffryn Taf in Whitland - from tomorrow Friday, March 27. They will be open Monday to Friday, between 9am and 11.30am and will be run by council staff who have been redeployed to help deliver essential services. If successful, the food hubs may be rolled out to other locations if successful. Executive Board Member for Communities Cllr Cefin Campbell said: “It is now more important than ever to look after those most in need in our communities. “We must support families who are experiencing financial difficulty and may struggle to feed their families as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. “These are families, who are already on a low income, and through no fault of their own because of the restrictions imposed in working and travelling, could find themselves in an even worse situation. “I would like to thank everyone involved; the council staff and all the volunteers who are working together to help those most in need. “As a council, we are doing all we can to support communities by working with our partners on a number of projects to help residents at this very challenging time.” If you need to contact us about the food hubs, you can call 01267 234567, between 8.30am and 6pm, seven days a week. .
