The e-mail is so important that I set out for you in full: Good afternoon, I am the property specialist for the BOP Vintage Car Club. I have been advised by the asset manager to make contact regarding a new lease for the premises at Cliff Road. As the Long Term Plan deliberations have now been finalised we are able to offer a lease on this (sic) premises. Can you please reply and indicate if you are open in entering into a new lease and any specific conditions you may have, we would be looking at a very similar lease document as was signed previously. Any questions please contact me at the below. Thanks Robyn Scrimshaw It goes without saying the answer will be yes!!! we do wish to enter into a further lease, and to this end we discussed the subject last evening at our Club Commit- tee meeting. The committee have instructed me to respond to the Council in the affirmative, and with the only special request that the lease be for a term of ten years. This is great news for the Club after the stress in the last year or so, with the un- certainty that the Council may have wanted the site for a museum. Now that the museum issue is behind us it is welcome news that a firm lease is pending. With luck the Council will concede to our request and grant a longer term lease than the two years we have previously. I will keep you posted as to developments. After that wonderful news anything else I discuss will be an anticlimax, but I can- not let the opportunity go by without reporting on the combined branch run last Sunday. We had fifteen vehicles from our club join us for a run over Pyes Pa to Rotorua, stopping at Hamurana Reserve for morning tea. We then joined four other branches at the Steam Museum at Holdens Bay Rotorua. Altogether, with the other branches there were in excess of forty vehicles at the event. It was great to share an afternoon with members from branches close by, and to view their wonderful historic vehicles. I do hope such combined branch events are repeated on a regular basis. Next year’s event is assured, with the Tau- po Branch chairperson putting his hand up and offering to host such a run next year. Perhaps it will then be our turn in 2020. Looking forward to seeing you all at our Christmas Party on the 9th of December, or perhaps at our New Year Day Picnic at Tuapiro Point. In the meantime, safe and happy motoring. Jim Smylie Chairperson 7 The festivities and Joy that Christmas Brings with it By Kaaren Smylie Members not only does the big Fella in the red suit descend upon us with vengeance in the month of De- cember, but don’t we start to feel brainwashed with the reminders from the retailers about Christmas festivi- ties, in my opinion it seems to happen earlier every year...or am I showing my age? For our Club not only is December another jammed pack month of events, but the January diary is filling up just as rapidly.
