Harris in Chicago Illinois on Feb. 23, 1905. The first meeting was held in Room 711 of the Unity Building. Four prospective members attended that first meeting. From there Rotary spread immediately to San Francisco California, and on November 12, 1908 Club # 2 was chartered. From San Francisco, Homer Woods, the founding President, went on to start clubs in Oakland and in 1909 traveled to southern California and founded the Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA 5) In 1914, at a fellowship meeting of 6 western Rotary Clubs H. J. Brunnier, Presi- dent of the Rotary Club of San Francisco, awoke in the middle of the night with the concept of Rotary Districts. He summoned a porter to bring him a railroad sched- ule of the United States, which also included a map of the USA, and proceeded to map the location of the 100 Rotary clubs that existed at that time and organized them into 13 districts. District 13: 1915-1918 District 13 came into existence in 1915 with H. J. "Bru" Brunnier of San Francisco as its first District Governor District 23: 1918-1922 In the redistricting of 1918, our District was renumbered to 23, but its geographical area remained the same. Clinton E. Miller of Los Angeles served as the first governor of the newly renum- bered District in 1918-19. He was followed by Alex Sheriffs of San Jose in 1919- 20, Leslie S. Everts of San Diego in 1920-21, and Charles B. Bills of Sacramento in 1921-22 2 District 2: 1922-1937 As a result of the third redistrict- ing effort by Rotary, our District lost territory and was given a new number. District 2’s territory became the States of Nevada, California, and the territory of Hawaii. John R. Williams of Long Beach was the first District Governor of the new District District 107: 1937 - 1949 In 1937 the size of District CLARK, NV 2 was greatly reduced as INYO Rotary Clubs spread through out the western US. This was the birth of the boundaries of our district which then included Inyo County, LA County north of Artesia Los Angeles Street (excluding Santa Catalina Island) and the Nevada County of Clark. The first District Governor- for District 2 was Marvin C. Park and Kenneth M. Payne from the Glendale Club was the First Governor to serve from our area, and L. Thurston Harshman was the Second. 3 District 160: 1949 -1953 During this period of our history we regained Santa Catalina Island and picked up additional Counties in Southern Nevada. This arrangement lasted just four years and Rotary’s growth led to another restructure of territories. E.W. Hiestand was the first District Governor to serve this area and our own Elmer C. Franzwa of the San Fernando Valley Club was its last. INYO Nevada District 160-B: 1953 -1957 Los Angeles With the split of district 160 we lost Nevada and most of southern LA County but, retained Inyo County and our Southern border was finally established- as the Ridge line of Santa Monica Mountains and the Southern boundaries of the territorial limits of the Glendale and North East L A clubs. The first District Governor to serve this new area was Mark Hana Bloodgood of the Glendale Club. He was followed by Russel Quisenberry (North Hollywood), Harry R. Morrill (Toluca Lake) and finally Leland R. Smoot the North East Los Angeles Club INYO 4 District 526: 1957 -1991 In 1957 we lost the Griffith Park Hills (southern part of Griffith Park) while the balance of our territory remained the same. This slightly revised territory was then christened District 526. First to serve as head of the newly named District was Bjarne L. Larson of the Van Nuys Rotary Club, and the last Governor to serve was Dave Woods of the Woodland Hills Club Mammoth INYO Los Angeles In 1981 under the leadership of PDG Elton Cherry, we expanded our northern border by chartering the Rotary Club of Mammoth Lakes, and in so doing picked up the area along US 395 to the northern most intersection of the June Lake Loop, then east to the Nevada border. District 5260: 1991 - 2012 In 1985 Rotary International renumbered the Rotary World and went to 4 Digit District numbers and we finally became District 5260. Eliseo D. W. Gauna of the North San Fernando Valley Club stepped forward to serve as the first Governor of the now 4 digit District. The last Governor to serve district 5260 is Tom Hardy of the Bishop Sunrise Club. On July 1, 2012 our district will be divided into 3 parts and relocated as follows: Owens Valley Clubs and Mammoth Lakes will join District 5190. Antelope Valley Clubs will become part of District 5300.
