The old zinc mines in the Allman- najuvet gorge are no longer in use, but in 1881 these mines gave the impetus to the first industrial boom in Sauda. In coopera- tion with the local authorities and the world-famous architect Peter Zumthor, the Norwegian Public Roads Administration is currently planning a building in the gorge to document and demonstrate the history of the mines. There will be a car park, service facilities and a café near the county road. Architect: Peter Zumthor. SVANDALSFOSSEN (front page) waterfall is a well-known 2 attraction in Sauda and a majestic sight when the river runs high. You can experience the forces of nature at close range on a flight of stairs leading upwards along the river to the main fall, and on another flight of stairs below the road leading down to [email protected] 0541-12 the fjord.
