Jesus said, "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord." Paul said, "You are the Body of Christ." These Biblical directives mandate a concern for the physical, spiritual, and mental wholeness of each person and all people and the environment in which they live. Humankind as co-creator has been given responsibility for the constructive use of all that is and will be. The Church is the community of all true believers under the Lordship of Christ. It is one holy, apostolic, and catholic. It is the redemptive fellowship in which the Word of God is preached by persons divinely called; and, the sacraments are duly administered according to Christ's own appointment. Under the discipline of the Holy Spirit, the Church exists to provide an avenue for worship, an evangelistic spirit for the redemption of the world, and, the edification of believers through education and a social consciousness. The United Methodist Church is to be a part of the body of Christ proclaiming God as Creator, Sustainer and Redeemer as revealed in scripture in the person of Jesus Christ extending the love, grace and power of God in the world. It requires a denominational and ecumenical strategy for action in the universe. MISSION STATEMENT The mission of the Iowa Annual Conference is to develop leaders who proclaim the gospel and transform the world...so that every Iowa United Methodist congregation and faith community can fulfill its mission through its primary task of making disciples.
