Both place 11:00 a.m. Brian T. Louis their hope in the love of God – a God who is Fa- ther for us, his sons and daughters, a God whose MONDAY, JUNE 28-St. Irenaeus love restores and heals and lifts us up – and that the love of God is revealed in their midst. 8:30 a.m. Bill Bray Why does St. Mark combine these two healings TUESDAY, JUNE 29-Sts. Peter and Paul in his Gospel so that they are read together? One reason is that they both involve women who have physical ailments. The girl is healed be- WEDNESDAY, JUNE 30 cause of the faith of her parents, and the woman 8:30 am is healed because of her own faith. Notice Jesus’ method of healing. When Jairus makes his plea, he asks Jesus to lay his hands on his daughter, THURSDAY, JULY 1-St. Junipero Serra and when Jesus heals her, he takes her by the 8:30 am Carmella Galarde hand, and he proclaims by voice that she should arise. This healing is completely out of the girl’s control. In the woman’s case the opposite is FRIDAY, JULY 2 true, “If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.” 8:30 am John Corcoran Jesus does not touch her. When he realizes her action, Jesus praises her faith and attributes her healing not only to his power but also to the SATURDAY, JULY 3-St. Thomas boldness of her own faith. 4:00 pm Jack Conners; Tony Perrino Jesus repeats the importance of faith. He com- mends the woman’s faith. When the people tell Jairus that his daughter has died, Jesus tells him, SUNDAY, JULY 4-Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” These stories reveal Jesus’ power. They also show us what ac- 8:30 a.m. Andrew Meyer; Andrew C. Meyer, Sr.; Meem Breyer; John Corcoran tions his followers must take. We learn today about the power of faith to over- 11:00 a.m. Juanita Wenke come even the most difficult of circumstances. Jesus shows us the life and hope we can bring to the world through the wisdom of God and the Readings July 4-Fourteenth Sunday in goodness everyone possesses. Do you trust in Ordinary Time God? What needs to be healed in your life? How do we help others grow in their faith? First Reading: Ezekiel 2:2:2-5 Psalm: 123:1-4 Have a blessed week! Fr. There are moments when we may be inclined to stay home, lingering in leisure or distracted by the swirl of weekend activities rather than participating in Sunday Eucharist. We may rationalize our desire for creature comforts as we ignore our conscience’s call to get ourselves to Mass. This is why the Church has established the Sunday obligation to attend Mass. Like parents who establish house rules in order to form a child to responsible adulthood, the Church establishes rules that lead us to spiritual maturity, which is expressed in willing participation in the Eucharist. The Sunday obligation may feel like an imposition from the outside, rather than what it is—a call for us to do what is best for us. WEEKLY COLLECTION ST.
