$>fate of m:cnncsscc HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 521 By Representatives Beck, Russell, Powell, Reedy, Cepicky, Todd, Tim Hicks, Helton, Carr, Gillespie, Curcio, Weaver, Terry, Clemmons, Gloria Johnson, Camper, Littleton, Miller, Keisling and Senators Campbell, Gilmore, Yarbro A RESOLUTION to honor and recognize Vince Gill upon his thirtieth anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. WHEREAS, it is fitting that this General Assembly should recognize those gifted artists who have experienced great success in the world of country music; and WHEREAS, Vince Gill, one of the most honored artists in the history of country music, will celebrate his thirtieth anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry on August 10, 2021; and WHEREAS, a native of Norman, Oklahoma, Mr. Gill was a talented guitar and dobro player by the time he was in his teens; he began his career playing with various bluegrass bands before moving to Los Angeles, California, thereafter joining the pop-country-rock band Pure Prairie League; and WHEREAS, he had a stint in the Cherry Bombs with Rodney Crowell and work backing Rosanne Cash before settling in Nashville in 1984 and signing his first recording contract as a solo artist; and WHEREAS, Vince Gill's commercial breakthrough came in 1990, when "When I Call Your Name" reached No. 2 on the charts; for the next decade, he remained a steady presence in the Top 10, with such hits as "I Still Believe in You," "Tryin' to Get Over You," "Liza Jane," and "What Cowgirls Do"; and WHEREAS, Vince Gill made his Opry debut on July 29, 1989, and was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry on August 10, 1991; both a critical and commercial success, he has sold more than 22 million albums; and WHEREAS, his long list of accolades includes more Country Music Association awards than any other artist and the most Grammy awards of any male country artist; in 2007, he was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, becoming one of the youngest artists to earn such membership; and WHEREAS, in addition to his contributions through music, Mr. Gill has devoted a considerable amount of time working with humanitarian efforts, including organizing concerts to raise money for victims of Nashville's devastating 2010 flood; and WHEREAS, it is the dream of every country music artist to be a member of the Grand Ole Opry and perform on the stage of the Grand Ole Opry House, and it is most fitting that Vince Gill be recognized on this special occasion; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED TWELFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we honor and recognize Vince Gill upon his thirtieth anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry, commend his illustrious career in country music, and extend to him our best wishes for every continued success.
