The 28-acre former Civic Arena new master redevelopment plan calls for up to 1,420 units of housing, 810,000 square feet of office space, 190,000 square feet of retail, 50,000 square feet of entertainment, and a 220-room hotel. This site is adjacent to PPG Paints Arena and is expected to produce more than $750 million in private investment, 4,000 construction and 3,000 permanent jobs, and about $25 million in annual state and local tax revenues. PPG Paints Arena is a multi-purpose indoor arena that can seat almost 20,000 people and hosts more than 150 annual events. Also just blocks away is UPMC Mercy Hospital. In March 2019, the hospital broke ground on the new Vision and Rehabilitation Tower. It is a part of UMPC’s $2 billion investment in specialty care and once completed the 410,000 square foot tower will house nine stories of collaborative space for clinicians, researchers, educators and industry partners.
