How to Audition Audition: August 20, 2019 All students wishing to be considered for our 2-Year Musical Theatre Performance Certificate/Transfer program are required audition. Auditions are held prior to the first week of the Fall semester. Requirements for our on-campus auditions are listed below. To ensure a strong audition, please consider the following guidelines in when selecting your audition material. If you should have questions regarding auditions, please contact program coordinator Tim Espinosa at [email protected]. If you are auditioning for the Musical Theatre program you will check in with the Department of Theatre Arts on the morning of your assigned audition. The audition will include the following elements: Songs: • Please prepare 2 contrasting selections that show your vocal range (one up- tempo and one ballad) from published Broadway literature • One song should be from traditional Broadway repertoire (written before 1965) and one should be from contemporary Broadway repertoire (written after 1980) • Each selection must not exceed 60 seconds in length (approximately 16-32 bars) • While we ask for a 60 second audition "cut," please be prepared to sing your entire song(s) should our audition panel need to hear more from you. • Bring sheet music in the proper key - an accompanist will be provided for you • Recorded accompaniment or a-capella singing are not appropriate for this audition • We do not recommend using a bell-tone intro to your song. Please use a traditional 2 or 4 bar “intro. • Please DO NOT select material by the following composers: •Jason Robert Brown •Adam Guettel •Stephen Sondheim Dance: • Students will learn and perform a short ballet and jazz combination for members of the musical theatre performance faculty to observe. • Please dress appropriately for a dance class.
