Applications for Calton Area Committee Grant funding. General Awards 1. Land & Environmental Services, Greenfield Depot, G32 6XS Bridgeton Family Fun Day This event took place on the 9th August and is part of the Long Hot Days tour. The funds requested cover flower arranging and reptile service which are provided internally from Land & Environmental Services. The costs cover: - materials (plants/flowers etc) and staffing outwith normal staff duties £400 Brief description of proposal - A caricaturist for the event - £300 The event will provide a programme of activities delivered by Urban Fox, Gladiator, PEEK and FAB. For All Bridgeton (FAB) will pay for children’s’ entertainers and inflatables. Other organisations such as John Wheatley College, Kids & Co, Strathclyde Police, GHA Big Red Truck will have a community stall. Areas Covered Calton ward Total Cost £3, 100 Other Funding £2, 400 £700 Amount Requested Fun Days receive significant amounts of council funding and questions were raised at the last meeting regarding which fund days LES already supported and who met those costs. James Dean, co-ordinator of the Long Hot Days’ programme, requested the additional support as part of the programme. Costs were used to cover materials and some additional staff from LES to Summary of assessment provide the service at a reduced rate. In Calton they provided flowers, tables, chairs, clean up and litter picks and bins all free of charge for the event. At Alexandra park a full team of staff for clean up, permission to use the park along with table’s chairs, barriers and flower arranging. Some costs were covered from this local area committee bid to support this event Lilybank received flower arranging and the park was prepared for the event in Helenslea and covered a de-litter after the event Other costs towards these events were met by the local groups organising the event, other youth providers such as Urban Fox & PEEK, funding we received by GHA or our Integrated Grant Funding to support the wider arts programme which include the long hot days programme of events The Bridgeton Gala day had a contribution of £1, 300, in kind support from Urban Fox, Gladiators and LES. One-off award of £700. LES should not Recommendation approach the Calton Area Committee for future gala day support costs. Specific Conditions None 2. St Anne’s Primary School, 35 David Street, G40 2UN Have Fun! Get Fit! The school seeks funds to develop a vacant grassy area at the school by installing play equipment to raise the physical activity levels of children as part of the curriculum and at lunchtimes and playtimes. Children will be involved in the design, development and management of the space to enhance the schools programme of outdoor learning. Local Community Groups will be able to make use of the play equipment outside school hours. Brief description of proposal Funds will be used towards purchasing play equipment and preparation of the ground. Costs breakdown as follows:- 1x Net Climber & Scramble Wall - £1692.54 1 x Wobble Walkway – Plus - £1290.03 1 x Seesaw Challenge - £1328.03 1 x Trapeze Swing with Rubber Step Posts - £732.89 1 x Rock & Roll Logs – Plus - £942.53 1 x Zig Zag Balance Beams - £543.42 2 1 x Swinging Logs – Plus - £1042.00 90 x Grass Mat Safety Tiles - £2775.00 Carriage & removal of spoil - £850 Areas Covered Calton ward Total Cost £11, 196.44 £8696.44 Match funding has been secured through a Big Other Funding Lottery grant; parent council fund-raising and the school’s internal fund-raising. £2, 500 Amount Requested This application was referred from the East Centre & Calton Funding Executive Group (FEG). The FEG agreed to award £2, 500 towards this Summary of assessment project but because they could not fully fund the award they referred it to the Calton Area Committee for consideration. Recommendation £2, 500 Specific Conditions None. 3. Calton Sheltered Tenants Association, 35 Tureen Street, G40 2HG Sheltered Tenants Christmas Party 2012 This is a joint application between Calton Sheltered Tenants Association and Bridgeton Sheltered Tenants. Funding is sought for a Christmas party for up to 120 sheltered tenants. Costs are required to fund transporting those attending to and from the venue (The Glencairn), provide a Christmas lunch and Brief description of proposal musical entertainment. The lunch will take place on Thursday 13th December. Costs associated with the proposal are:- Bus hire - £380 Entertainer/musician - £100 Christmas meal - £1, 200 Areas Covered Calton ward Total Cost £1680 Other Funding £1200 3 £480 Amount Requested The event provides an opportunity for sheltered tenants and older people in the wider and Bridgeton communities to meet and reduce isolation. This year is a joint event between the sheltered housing tenants in Calton and Bridgeton, which will help to develop links between the two areas. Summary of assessment The maximum award for bus hire is £300 and the area committee guidance states that funding should not be used to fund food or entertainment. However, it is at the discretion of the committee if it wishes to fund the other items. £300 towards bus trip. The remaining items are Recommendation ineligible. Specific Conditions None. 4. St Mungo’s Academy, 243 Crownpoint Rd, G40 2RA One St Mungo’s – One Scotland – One Culture! This project has two strands: the first element will allow young people to take part in a variety of programmes designed to celebrate diversity and breakdown cultural barriers. These programmes will be incorporated into the curriculum and after school clubs. The second strand of the programme will offer young people involved in gang culture the opportunity to take part in a 10 week group work programme reflecting on why and how to break away, followed by a residential weekend, working in Brief description of proposal conjunction with Glasgow Life, Clyde Gateway, and Celtic F.C. The programme will start in January 2013 and will run throughout the year. This will take place Monday-Friday from 9am – 5pm. Glasgow Life will deliver LEAP groupwork training to tackle gang violence. The project is seeking funds for the musical instruments required to take the first strand of the project forward. 4 Areas Covered Calton ward Total Cost £20, 000 Other Funding £15, 000 from Celtic FC £5, 000 Amount Requested The instrumental and vocal tuition programme is oversubscribed and has lengthy waiting lists. The proposal will help alleviate some of those pressures. The project will reach out to the feeder primary schools and provide the opportunity for young Summary of assessment people to go out and support the learning of younger children. The project already has some instrumental tuition in the primaries and would look to encourage the same sense of high energy performance opportunities as St Mungo’s. It is expected that 700 young people will benefit from this project. Recommendation £5, 000 Specific Conditions None 5. Calton Area Association, 231 Stevenson St, G40 2RW Christmas Events and Theatre/Panto Trips Funding is sought to provide local people with visits to the pantomime and to visit Holyrood, Edinburgh. Local people have no facility to hold a Christmas Party, therefore the group decided to take local people to the pantomime and to visit Holyrood where a local committee member is taking part in a play about addictions. Brief description of proposal Additionally, there will be a Christmas Light switch on and the group has arranged for mince pies/hot drinks for local people together with entertainment and music. Costs breakdown as follows:- Pantomime and transport - £500 Entertainment/live music - £100 Transport to Holyrood - £200 Sweets & Juice - £200 Areas Covered Calton ward 5 Total Cost £1000 £200 from Thenue Housing towards sweets & Other Funding juice £800 Amount Requested There is a maximum level of award for bus hire of £300 and the other items are ineligible as they are classed as entertainment, however funding can be granted at the discretion of the committee. Summary of assessment Quotes have not been received for any of the items however a verbal update should be available at the committee meeting. Recommendation £300 Subject to receiving additional information from the Specific Conditions group. 6. Glasgow City Football Club, 65 Carnwath Avenue, G43 2HJ Increasing Our Youth Participation The organisation wish to set up two new teams to complete the youth pathway. It currently has the following teams: Under 11; Under 13 and Under 15. It wishes to create an Under 9’s and Under 17’s, to start in January. The Under 17s would have activities 5 times a week (7-9pm and weekend afternoons) and the Under 9s would have activities 3 times a week (6- 7.30pm and weekend mornings). Brief description of proposal Costs breakdown as:- Playing Kit U’9 x 12 - £261.00 Playing Kit U’ 17 x 18 - £480.00 Footballs x 2 teams x 32 - £460.70 Ball pumps x 2 - £6.80 First Aid x 2 - £67.98 Bibs x 32 - £73.00 Markers x 32 - £28.90 Ball Bags x 3 - £40.80 Training Wear x 30 - £1, 197.00 Pitch Hire Jan-March - £1, 334.00 Areas Covered Calton ward Total Cost £4, 637.54 Other Funding £1187.36 6 £3450.18 Amount Requested The project currently has players at Under 15 who will soon be too old to play in this age group. An Under 9’s group would provide opportunities for young girls to learn new skills, grow confidence and be part of a team. There were no figures available regarding the number of young people who attend already from the Calton ward. However, activities take place within the Calton ward (Glasgow Green) and a condition of grant could be placed on the award stipulating that the majority of service users should Summary of assessment come from the Calton ward which would allow Calton Area Committee to make a contribution towards this new project The recommendation takes into account the maximum level of award for football strips of £300 agreed at a Calton Area Committee last year.
